Drivers Door Latch Mechanism sticking
#1

My driver door latch has been getting harder and harder to open. It seems that the external lever is not pulling the latch mechanism. It is worse (almost inop) when it is cold. Has anyone else run into this? It looks like the latch mechanism is just held in place with two screws.

Yes, others (including yours truly) have run into this. I so did not want to do the repair that I continued using the harder-and-harder-to-operate driver's door until the lever broke - at which point I had no choice. There is at least one thread that goes into great detail on what's involved in the R&R process. As much as I hate to give this answer...do a search, you'll come up with everything you need.

YES!!!! I had the same problem with my Pass door. I pulled the entire door apart just out of frustration and tried several diff things and nothing worked.

Then in a last ditch attempt I simply filled the tip of the latch that grabs round parts attached to the car and now opens like a dream!! A little tough to explain but I will take a picture of the latch for you so you can see what I did. This will not require anything to be taken apart and can do right on the door.

I planed on replacing the latch so if I had ruined it trying to figure out how to repair it would not have upset me.

Happened to me also. I was at my local Porsche shop and mentioned it. The owner grabbed a can of PB Blaster and shot some in the opening of the handle - if you pull the handle you will see it. Worked fine ever since.

I ran into the same problem with the pass door handle sticking. While I was in there changing the opening mechanism, it gave me a chance to change the door handle gaskets. It was such a PITA though. Just lube the crap out of the knuckle on the actuator, and it should be fine. No problems since.

My drivers side has been doing the same thing off and on for a little while (worse when cold), but like so may other problems I've had with this car, it has magically disappeared! I'm not too thrilled about the prospect of dismantling my door, so I think I will wait until the problem returns, and is doing it consistently.

Wow. A lot of the same experiences! I did do a search on "door latch" and found nothing. However, I will search again as well as try the lubricant through the handle opening. Thanks, guys!

I tried the PB Blaster method yesterday on the sticky passenger side handle and although it seemed to want to work, it didn't help right away. When I came in to the shop this morning, I tried it and low and behold, it works wonderfully! Needed some time to soak in and work it's way around everything.

Also, thanks for linking to the lock mechanism thread Cloud...this will be on my list when the door panel comes apart as the passenger side lock button doesn't go down nor does the blinking LED work.

Here is a picture of how I filed just the tip of the passengers latch.
I nearly had to brake the handle to open the door and only I could open it for others who were going to be a passenger.
I also showed a picture of the drivers door latch not filled just to show you do not need to file much at all but it makes a world of difference.
