Is disengaged and lying flat.  Must open door from inside.  Confused as some info says 944 repair parts work but others say they are specific 968 parts.  thoughts?

944-537-261-02 is the link from the handle to the latch mechanism. Now if you feel resistance when pulling in the handle, it may just be the outer door latch. Which you can lube with garage spring lube to free it up and grease it.

There is a little pin in there , where the handle rotates around(NR8) , mine was worn thru , i fabricate mij own pin , and works great again ..

Other option  is that the plastic part (48), wicht connects the door release , is broken or disconected .

Only way to find out , remove the handle , take door card off , have a look to see what is going on .
