No brace = Commando.

Upper brace = bra.

Both braces = sports bra, or as my wife says, "uni-boob".

Unlike most of you guys, I felt absolutely no difference after installing the upper brace. However, the lower brace transformed the car for me ! A "day and night" difference, the car felt as if it was new , tight, quieter, solid ..simply awesome, and a definite must have IMO.

No offense but did you install it properly?

Yes, because I was not the one who installed it , LOL. It was installed by Mr. "D1R" himself so no margin for error at all :-) .

lol - remember that dan only drives in a straight line. he doesn't push the car hard in the corners, and when he does, what he feels tightening up is not part of the car

Sounds like he needs different support while driving ;-) Doubt that's in the D1R catalogue.

Ahh, but you are wrong Kimosabe, I do push it to the limits in corners every chance I get, the fact that I PREFER the sensation of top end speed to gforce in turns and thus drive it as fast as it will go in a straigt line, has nothing to do with this.

That said, my butt-o-meter is not that well calibrated so subtle changes in handling or performance tend to go unnoticed unless they are really, really pronounced. So maybe it was only the combination of the two braces that was needed to bring everything together for me, or maybe it is that the lower brace by itself makes a much bigger difference than the upper one by itself.. Either way, I only noticed a material difference after installing the lower one. BTW, I did install that one on my own, so I'm not entirely devoid of "mechanical " aptitude. I have it properly affixed to the two underbelly pans, just as it should be

roflmao - sorry - i was looking at your tires, and the corners told me you don't push it that hard. you have what motorcyclists call "chicken strips". perhaps it's just the proportion of straight miles to twisty ones that is doing that. i'm thinking that maybe staying off the freeway, and staying in the canyons, might even out your treadwear.

by the way, i think i have a thought on your upper rev limit/missing power issue.

Yup, it's the proportion - over 95 % of the driving miles have been highway for many years now..on weekends I'll do a canyon or some similar " twistie " road here and there where I can push it in the turns, but that's about it.

As for the rev / power curve thing...cool, hope a solution is in sight. Even though it's not really important, it's nonetheless jut a bit annoying that I can't get the additional 300 or 400 rpm sustained benefit the chip shoot-out tests have shown..

The amount of change in handling when I installed the upper brace was, to me, immense. When I installed the lower brace, not so much. I don't know if that is affected by the chassis brace being installed as well?

After 2.5 or so years of ownership, I've noticed that the 968 is more sensitive to changes in suspension, alignment and tires than any car I've ever owned. It doesn't take much being out of whack to completely garbage-up the car's handling. But conversely, when things are put right - like getting a really good corner balance and alignment or adding the proper bracing - or even getting a new set of tires when the previous ones were in fine shape but merely old - the car can be transformed from a pig that fights you in every corner to a handling monster that sticks to the road like, well, like you always thought a proper Porsche should.

It's not quite there yet, but after a lot of work, my car is finally starting to corner like a Porsche.
