After installation several months ago I am getting a rubbing sound when I turn the wheel. It comes from the plastic dress piece, with the round hole in it, under the steering wheel, rubbing on the steering wheel adapter hub. It is as if the steering column has shifted relative to the plastic dress piece.
Is the steering column jacket tube attached at another point in the body that may be loose? I also notice that when I lock the wheel when parking, the ignition key moves about 3/8" when I the wheel to unlock it. I know that they are connected thru the steering lock housing, but should there be noticable movement?
The steering lock housing attaches to the car with 2 SHEAR BOLTS. Could these be loose and cause the slight off center problem? If I try to tighten them will they shear off and require drilling to remove them?
Any ideas? or has anyone had a similar problem?
I'll pull it apart this weekend and look around.
