Checking my photo again, doubling the leads over helps maintain contact. What isn't shown, but mentioned in the instructions is a good swaddle of electrical tape should also be used to keep it together.

Folding over the leads would have worked better and is the reason that my installation failed.

Well, now that it is soldered I don't have to think about it.

I must admit that I read "install" and just glanced at the photo. It is obvious that the leads are folded back to make a tighter connection, but I did not catch it.

"the devil is in the details"

A lesson learned about paying attention to the little details, that would have saved me a lot of time.

Since the 968 Engineering pdf is such an excellent document, I would suggest ( since I screwed up ) that the text says to fold back the leads to insure that the connection is solid and then wrap with tape. An alternative solder method could also be mentioned.

Hind sight is 20/20!

... i've been to 3 radioshacks here and they do not supply 3 Ohm resistors... the lowest they carry is a 10 ohm ... would this work.. or would it lower the current too much for the circuit???

It needs to be 3 Ohms or very close to it. We know that 3 Ohms works. You will need to go somewhere other than Radio Shack, I couldn't find them there either. Try an electronics supply store, Fry's, etc. or online.

unfortunately radio shack has abandoned its roots, almost completely gettign out of the home electronics hobby business, and chosen instead to be just another cheap gadget store, and derives most of its revenue now from cell phone sales - i couldn't even find a book there that used to be a standard item

try marvac

Low Tech solution........just clip the wire going into the airbag computer box. Leave enough to splice with a wire connector later if needed. No problems after two years. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I've ordered the 930S wheel from Sunset, I have a 930S wheel on my '88 911 and love it. Does anyone know if there is a hub adapter like the Momo hub adapter that will bring the wheel out about 1 - 2" further from the dash? My knees are a little too close to the wheel in the stock config, I can drive with it but would be more comfortable with a little more space.

Yes, there is a hub adapter which extends the steering wheel back toward you. I do not know the part number, but Sunset should have it. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

When I ordered the wheel from Sunset I asked specifically about a hub/spacer and Jeff from Sunset replied he knew of no such thing for the 930S wheel.

Please, if you can track down the p/n I would greatly appreciate it.

That surprises me, the steering wheel adapter for the 930S wheel should not be any different from the one for the standard Porsche wheel. Wonder why it would not work with the 930S wheel? There may be something I do not know about, but it looked the same to me when I changed mine. Bob Blackwell.

Bob- any chance you might remember more specific information to help someone clip that wire going into the airbag box? I'm not even sure I know which box that is, and what I'd do if more than one wire were headed there. Should I assume that this mod disables the passenger bags as well?

Many thanks.

Bill,

Hope you don't mind me asking, but how much are getting for the CS wheel now?

John, if you read the detailed instructions for installing the CS steering wheel on this site and Tom Pultz's article I am sure you will have no trouble. The airbag computer box is in the passenger footwell, forward of the glovebox and it has a label on it to identify it. The wire which you clip is a white wire with a black stripe on it. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

No problem at all, $380.32 from Sunset Imports, I emailed them, dropped as many org. names as I could but I don't think it makes a diff., now watch, PCA will come out w/ the $100 discount next month.

I also ordered the horn contact, not sure if it's needed but it's only $3.99. I'll call Mon AM and talk to someone, I would really like a 1 - 2" more room for my knees.

Am I correct in assuming the 930S style and the CS style wheels are the same thing?

If this is not correct maybe this is my problem and if they're not the same what are the differences? Maybe I should have asked this to begin with.

Bill, the only difference I know of is the stitching on the bottom of the wheel. It goes one way on the CS and another on the 930S. Functionally identical. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Bill,

When I ordered mine I had them install the Porsche Badge in the center of the horn button. IMHO it looks better than the plain horn button. Worth the extra cost.

From what I've seen the CS wheel has an embossed logo, whereas with the 930 wheel a badge is added.
