Rear cab hatch won't open with key
#1

The rear hatch on my '94 cab won't open with the key. It works fine using the button in the front...just won't work with the key. Any suggestions where I should start to look for the problem?

Same problem. I think there is an electronic issue even though it is using the key but I have not looked at it yet. I really need to get he keyless entry hooked up just for the trunk. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

the problem is most likely at the key switch itself - pull the carpet back and fiddle around back there

when you turn the key a rotating plastic cam turns against a small springy metal tab which in turn presses a microswitch turning on the release motor.

mine has been slowly failing for years now. I got another year out of it by bending the small metal tab to push down the microswitch with more authority but now mine as well has quit. seemingly for good. so i've ordered another microswitch.

trouble is... now the front switch is failing as well! sheesh... so we'll see if the new switch in the back helps or not.

Fixed! It was the switch not making when the cam turned. I bent it a bit and it's working fine now. Thanks for the help.
