contemplating the next D1R production run
#1

time has flown. it has already been nearly 5 months since i took the last orders. i've gotten a number of emails and such about the next run. so, i thought i would put out feelers to see if it's justified. please email me with a list of the items you are prepared to order now. if there is enough to justify a run, i'll likely open the doors for ordering in the next few weeks.

email to sales@design1racing.com

for those of you who didn't read the last thread, splitters are made to order, and can be done at any time. they are not waiting for the next run.

Firewall and strut tower brace would go nicely with my caster brace!

getting some responses. not quite enough yet to justify a run, but it's coming.

i am thinking that if i do this, i'll open the doors on nov 1 and take orders until nov 30. that should put everything in everybody's hands mid january, given the holidays and all.

once again, i will only make what i have advanced pre-paid order for, so there won't be any extras. given the much slower trickle of people wanting stuff, i'll probably skip the one after that, and it will be a year before the next run.

So you are saying if you want something to get on the D1R site and order it and pay for it, correct?

once i "open the doors" yes, but not yet.

in the meantime, in order to see if i am going to open the doors in november, based entirely on feedback, i need people to send me an email telling me what they want. you can use the contact button on the D1R site or the address above.

Flash it seems like opening the D1R doors for ordering once a year for 30 days might be sufficient to satisfy us customers and at the same time allow you to keep your sanity.

I think all I need is a heat shield and a splitter...

splitters are not affected, and can be made at any time.

again, though, for anything else, send an email. i won't be tracking things from here.

Are you still swearing off making grills?

the grilles are complicated. the material is flimsy and ragged, and hard to handle without damage to either it or my hands. shipping without damage is equally challenging. on top of that, i have to make quite a few in order to be able to make 1. i just don't think there will be enough to justify it. i'll have to bump the price up a bit too, to handle the cost of the heavier lumber i need to use to ship it without damage, which will likely also push the shipping cost up.

so, not sure. i guess we'll have to wait and see.

I really wish we could please stay on line with this thread. It's very difficult to follow as it meanders around.

i wish people would just shut up and send me email requests for the stuff they want. i'll probably edit this thread, leaving only the specifics, and close it

Perhaps if you post an announcement, like a big box retailer, directing people to your site to read this info you might be able to better control the communication flow. Think of the buzz you might create! You could utilize the new google algorithm hummingbird and grow your web traffic. Heck instead of once or twice a year you might grow your sales. Oh right, with only 5000 cars imported hmmm. It's early, excuse the flights of fancy. Still somewhat on thread! Lol

anyway, back on topic - i'll take a look this weekend, but i'm not sure there is enough to justify opening the doors yet.

Flash,

Have you or would you consider selling your template to the Delrin skid plate? The material itself seems like it can be sourced pretty easy online. I bet some of the guys who bought splitters would pay you for the design and template. Mailing a paper template and instructions would be a whole lot less work than putting one into production. Maine roads are not ideal for the splitter.

i haven't even worked out the prototype yet. once i do, i'll release the product. it's a bit more involved than what you might think. they will need to be cut by machine. you won't be able to cut it by hand or on a band saw. the edges will be beveled, and the shape is curved. the holes will need to be counter-bored.

when i'm done, i'll post an announcement.
