a fair chance D1R may reopen - sort of
#1

i am currently in negotiations to license out my designs, and put some or all of the products back into production. i would likely not be directly involved in the sales. i would continue to provide technical support as needed, until such time as the new vendor could take over. the products would still carry the D1R name. some products might see some changes that would facilitate larger scale production or cost reduction, but would in no way diminish the level of quality and reliability.

beyond completion of the NA package, no further products would be developed. any projects that were put on hold or side-lined would be cancelled. if the new vendor chose to take on a new product, it would not be under the D1R flag.

i don't know how pricing would be affected yet. i don't know which products would be included yet. that is a part of the negotiations.

i expect to have more information about this by the end of the month.

i've really been wrestling with this one. i wanted to continue to provide the stuff, but can't dedicate the time to do it myself. having somebody else do it was great in concept, but finding the right company to handle it, and in such a way as to maintain my level of expectation of fulfillment and quality, was no easy task. i've been talking to them for almost a year now, and i think we are finally close to having a deal.

Probably should wait until the ink is dry before you make any announcements (i.e.. the supercharger thread)...just sayin'

You do realize that once you sell a business the control over how the business is run often changes. Unless of course you hold the note with certain stipulations. Maybe you just need to hire people to do what you do, grow the biz and maintain the quality you expect! Just sayin.

lol - the business would remain exactly the same. that's why i am looking at these people. they think exactly like i do. they won't sell something if they think it might be improperly used or installed. their reputation is too valuable for that.

regardless, keep in mind, that i am not selling the business. that would never happen. i am only licensing the manufacture of selected products. i will still hold all of the rights to them, as well as the controls over how and to whom they are sold. they would merely be handling the interactions, rather than me.

Sounds like the ideal situation, Flash. Hope everything goes as planned on the business end - it'll be good for all of us.

And I hope you don't sell your car just yet, but I know how you're feeling. I just finished nine years with my E36 M3. I loved that car, but I was just done, don't miss it a bit. The new car (2010 335i) is roomier, more comfortable, more convenient technologically, quieter, smoother and faster. All the good stuff with newer cars is hard to knock.

well, this is going to at least take a while. hit some rather serious snags. if it happens, at this point it looks like it won't likely be until next year.

Yup, don't make an announcement, until you're ready to make an announcement...
