Which clutch rep kit?
#1

I believe time is coming to re-fresh the clutch, and look at the following options (for kits - disc, pressure plate and release bearing - assume for now DMF should be OK)
Original Porsche €870
Sachs €530
LUK €430
On search I have seen some comment the Sachs kit will give a slightly stiffer pedal than original, have not seen any comments on LUK? Opinions?

see also www.rsbarn.com
and I've read that the clutch of a Porsche 964 RS would fit a 968

from what i understand, the Sachs clutch's are approx 30% stiffer then OEM; as they are performance clutch's.

I have a Sachs Clutch mated to PowerHaus's 12.5LBS billet flywheel in my car.

Best bet is to contact Pete and ask for advice based on what your looking for in terms of feel/perforamce.

I wouldnt recomend my set-up to anyone who drives their car daily (unless you like quick grabbing rough clutchs).

there are multiple pressure plates - 5 years ago when i started looking for my flywheel, i spoke to a guy in the know that said that there were the OEM, which is somewhere around 2500lbs, and 3 different sachs units, running from 2600lbs to 3200lbs, to 3700 lbs - i have the 3200lb

the geometry of the springs on the lower sachs unit, which is the one that all the cheapy vendors sells that is "supposed" to be the OEM replacement, is apparently not the same as stock, and results in an odd feeling at the pedal - pete can fill you in more on this

The correct pressure plate is sold through Porsche and is now made by AP. The popular sachs kits have a different throw and puts lots of pressure on the firewall and can lead to cracking. They also release just off the floor.
Buy OE in my opinion

Hmmm...Pete, next time I come to your shop (for my brake upgrade - ), I'm going to bring the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel set that I have so you can tell me what I have. I believe it's supposed to be the complete OEM kit, but now I'm not sure, and I'd like to know. I assume you can tell all by seeing the parts?

Another related question, would you change the DMF as well on the assumption it will not last the lifetime of the new clutch?
