High polished or chromed fuel rail cover?

I have seen some 968's that the owner has had the fuel rail cover made to have a very shiny appearance with the PORSCHE letters painted or power coated in red? How would one go about to get this effect? Is it done by polishing the cover or chroming it. What kind of paint is best to be used as it would get very hot I would assume?

Easiest route is to powder coat the cover. The letters come from Jager Engineering www.jageng.com. I got mine from them about 18 months ago. At the time there were a number of color choices. I hope they are still around.

Check out the "gallery" pictures for DaveN. He polished the fuel rail cover and hand painted the letters.

I have the letters from Jager Engineering for several years now, and they still look great!

Just discussed this today with my service provider...



As part of belt/chain/pad/pump/balance shaft service, my FILTHY rail cover and cylinder head cover will be blasted with walnut shell. The lettering will be painted with hi-temp enamel, and then the pieces will be powder coated clear.



He showed me a chromoly motorcycle frame with this treatment...the blueing at the welds showed perfectly thru this powder coat. It was a really cool look and effect.



He said it will be a slightly darker grey than the cleaned raw aluminum, obviously a slightly different texture, and it will be easy to clean and will hold up very well. Couple hundred bucks---relative to everything else I'm spending to get this engine up to speed, it's nothing.



Anyway....I had never heard of "clear" powder coat, but that's my plan of attack for this particular task/project. Thinking maybe there is a "shiny" option versus chrome?

Once again, a subjective matter but as beautiful as I think the chrome covers are I still have a hard time getting used to that look on a Porsche engine. Not sure why though, it's just one of those things where I feel they are much more fitting on American muscle cars / sports cars than they are on Porsches. Powder coating for a clean look, even semi-gloss finish would be my choice vs. the chrome.

I also have the jaeger engineering raised letters, and they still look brand new after ( I think ) at least eight years on the cover.

I recently had mine powder coated to more or less match the SC. I went with a wheel silver color.

Hey folks.  Any ideas on how to clean these things?  I've scrubbed with brakleen (original cancer causing formula natch) and Gunk original degreaser.  Its cleaner yes, but clean - no.  Still lots of grimy streaks on it that seem pretty baked in.  Same for valve cover.

I found that applying silver paint for aluminum with a rag worked great on the cover and the intake manifold. You can reach into every place that you can see without removing anything. The black press on letters set it off nicely.
