Car won't idle
#1

My car won't idle and dies. It will start and if I rev the engine, it will stay on, but when I let go of the throttle it dies. Any thoughts here?

Thanks

Idle Control Valve, especially if after being revved up it doesn't descend back to idle in an orderly fashion, but rather plummets and sputters and dies.

I'll check that, but I think it's a vacuum leak. Had the pan gasket and rod bearings replaced recently and I'm thinking something might have gotten dislodged.

could be, but generally a vacuum leak will cause it to idle high, not die - unless it's huge, i don't think that's it - did you pull the intake manifold for any reason?

do you have a vacuum gauge?

So, obd is giving an Idle Control valve code. I'm assuming this can't just be cleaned out with carb cleaner and relates to an electrical issue. These things are very expensive and there are no aftermarket that I am aware of. Something like $593. thoughts?

Sometimes you can just clean them out, cause they get gummed up. I only have ones for 951's hangin around the garage. Sorry cant be more help.

would it still give a bad code if it were gummed out. I'm thinking the code was caused by a fault in the ICV electronics.

Could be a dead circuit or something internally, or could be just gummed up. Doesnt hurt to try spraying it our first. Not hard to remove, and install.

I got some extra life out of mine on the 944S by spraying it, but not much. I eventually had to replace it.
