Car won't start, need help
#1

I have been having random hesitation issues at low rpm < 3000, it was the same symptoms as if the car was running out of gas. I know this because my fuel sender in the tank hasn't worked well in awhile.

Recently I replaced the fuel sender and the old one was destroyed with many broken parts in the tank. I emptied the tank, cleaned out all the parts, and replaced the fuel screen in the bottom of the tank. With the new fuel sender it ran great and the fuel gauge worked fine for a full tank of gas, no hesitations. Yesterday coming home I ran out of gas and the car stopped, fuel gauge was above E so I thought I had enough to get home. Put some gas in and the car started fine and drove home. Started fine today went to gas station and filled all the way, car started fine but the fuel gauge didn't go above 1/4 left. A mile down the street the car stalled and now won't start, it turns over fine but no start. I've tried 3 different DME relays and no change. I'm guessing the start problem might be fuel related, what can I check? I can I verify the fuel pump is working? Any other ideas to try?

Car is parked on the street a mile from my house, need help please!!

After a search I saw some people with issues on the connector for the fuel pump, I will check this tomorrow not sure if I can spend any more time on the car today.

You donthave a clogged fuelline/filter in the tank between tank and pump?

Is the pump running? have you checked it?

Check if the fuelpump has + 12 volt connection. If not check wires from the fusebox to the pump. Approximatly 40 centimers from the pump there is a connector.

Before checking the fuelpressure you must confirm that you have a spark!.

Maybe something else is broken.?

It is hard to diagnose your car from a distance.

I should also mention I replaced the fuel filter last fall and didn't fix the hesitation. When I replaced the fuel screen in the tank I check the hose between the pum and tank and it was clear of debris. With all the small pieces in the fuel tank I was concerned a piece was getting stuck block fuel somewhere, I've checked all hoses from the tank to the fuel filter.

I am working on the car by myself, how can I check the fuel pump is running? I will check if I'm getting +12 at the pump, thanks.

Just looking for advise on what to check, I'm suspicious of the fuel pump.

If you search the forum there are instructions on building 2 jumpers that fit in the DME relay socket to force the pump on. That way you are guranteed to hear the pump or see fuel come out the rail. I carry these jumpers with me in the rear cubby just in case the DME relay fails and my spare doesn't work.

Tried the DME jumper last night and no start, also I couldn't hear the fuel pump running. Going to check fuel pump connections today.

If you jumped 30 Power to 87b and the fuel pump is not running I would suspect your pump and gone south.

You can also reverse the power to the pump to reverse it's flow in hopes of freeing the pump up if it's stuck.

I have power at the pump and its silent. Good idea reversing power, if its already dead it won't hurt to try. Thanks
