Does anybody know where I can get a cover that is used when the cabriolet top is down. It seems the one I have has 3 or 4 of the rivets missing (torn off). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!



Otherwise, does anyone know of any danger in not putting on the cover and driving around?

I believe that they refer to the cover as a "boot cover". There was a black one on eBay about a week ago for about $350. I know that German Auto Dismantlers in Georgia has several. You'll have to research them on Google. But, they are pricey! The boot costs almost as much as a complete top kit!

the only "danger" below 100mph is aditional wear on the headliner and window - over 100mph i guess the fabic could start rustling which would accellerate that process, and if you were in manual mode, might lift it up, but i doubt it



what happens is that dirt and such get worked into the headliner, making it wear faster - also sunlight bleaches it out and does the same - the window get scratched as a result of the dirt getting down in there too



i use a towel lain down over the window (soon to be replaced with that pilow i keep seeing on one of the websites) - then i put the top down - this has kept my original window looking new - the boot cover has always been used, which has kept the top and headliner looking new



it's a pain in the butt, but it works - you can just drop the top - plenty of people do - of all the cars i've seen though that do that, their tops always look old and the windows are always accluded



they do pop up on ebay a lot - can the rivets be replaced on yours?

What color are you looking for? I have a spare dark blue one in excellent condition that I'll sell for $175 (that's what I paid for it. An Englishman advertised it as black!).

If the only problem with your existing cover is missing rivets (and they're not really rivets), that can be addressed pretty easily. As I said, the fasteners are not rivets; they screw in place. Mine had gotten out of place so that gaps were appearing around the fasteners, so I undid them, opened up the little pieces that are meant to grip the material, repositioned them, and screwed the fastener piece back in place. Everything's held together for more than a year. So, you should be able to simply purchase the fasteners and fix your existing boot.

The only danger would be scratching your paint as it would flap harshly against the paint. As Anchor said go to the dealer and order some new clasp or screw in pegs if needed. I think they run about $10-15 a peice from memory. Paragon might even have them the clasps are two peice and screw togeather sandwiching your boot. Again from memory. The boot will be as good as new... Unless you have tears then that is a different story.

Thank you everyone for all the responses! I took a look at the cover a bit closer and it appears that the "special" rivets on one side (about 3 of them) are missing. I am going to look for just the rivets themselves because the rest of the boot is in great shape. Thanks for all the links. If anyone else knows of good places to find just the rivets, let me know. This IS the "special rivet" that you are looking for. Its a two piece, screw-together part.
