I was traveling to an autocross on Sunday and early morning traffic was nil on the backroads. Of couse one thing lead to another and while exercising the car well up in 6th gear, POP! the passenger rear corner of the sunroof came loose. This was startling to say the least. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> The rush of air and noise was distracting and I don't need that when going 'the speed limit'. I was able to later get the the hook back into the groove and the top operates normally. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something I"m doing wrong with the top? It does not appear that anything is broken, but is there a worn part that needs replacing? I don't want this to happen at speed on the track next Saturday with the Porsche club. I'm still learning about this car and I appreciate your advice.

Stephen, sometimes it is just the microswitches getting out of adjustment. Usually the plastic drive gears break if the adjustment is not correct and then both rear latches will not hold the top down. This is also very surprising when it happens at speed.......sudden decompression! Recommend you either adjust the microswitches yourself (a thankless job, at best) or have a shop look at it before the gears go out. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Thanks Bob. It appears that my top closes uniformly and tight on both sides. Are there other symptoms or what to look for if the microswitches are out of adjustment? Where are they and how are they adjusted? These tops are a real puzzle and seem to be problematic at times. If I could choose, I'd do without. I'm not even close to a Porsche shop (and the closest (Spokane) is of unknown quality). Decompression at speed is disconcerting. It is advisable to have the top cranked up on the track?

I am guessing that this problem occurred when your windows were up. This happens to me right now but I have not yet taken the time to adjust the switches because, as Bob Blackwell said, it is a thankless and I will add 'tedious' job. However, it should not cause you a problem at a track day since your windows will be down and the pressure inside your car will be the same as outside.

Stephen, the micro switches are in the rear hatch compartment on the drivers side, behind the upholstery over the left side storage compartment, by the electric motor, and under the front center of the sunroof. There is a plastic cover that hinges and reveals the front microswitch after removing the sunroof. As all other plastic parts on the 968, the cover is very delicate and will break. The Clark's garage write-up helps me visualize the situation better. I don't know if I want to open that can of worms and start diddling with the micro-switches. If I'm at speed of the track I'll have the windows open, even in the rain forcast for Sat. I'll concentrate on getting the M030 swaybars on by Saturday rather than trying to change the sunroof.
