Cab water leak
#1

I have a small leak on the front top of the driver's door glass. It is were the 'A' pillar moulding meets the cab top moulding, at the roof line, about 1/4 inch back from the metal wind wing support.

I have inspected the rubber and all look fine.

I have heard of injecting silicon with a syringe into the rubber mouldings on cab tops to swell the moulding to cure slight leaks, but have not ever seem it done.

Does anyone else have this issue? Any fixes or recommendations?

Brian,

That sounds like a good Idea! I have a couple of leaks in my old top in heavey rain but they are in the back top corners where the two gaskets come together. Replacing these gaskets is a mega buck parts expense so any other fix is a good idea. I will be making adjustment to the top & window mechanisms this winter to snug things up. But when the rubber shrinks with age there is not to much room for adjustment. Let me know if that works for you.

I had a leak I believe in the same place. I restored/weatherproofed my top with 303 and the problem went away.

I would be interested to hear if the silicone injection works on the rubber molding though.

I had the same problem on both the driver's side AND the passenger side during heavy rain. It was actually pretty severe. It was right after I purchased the car and figured I was in for a long trail and error troubleshooting procedure with my garden hose. I talked to my Porsche mechanic/friend who said he had seen one that leaked like this that his shop was never able to fix properly. Strangely enough, my symptoms have NEVER returned. It only happened that one time. I'm guessing it was due to how the top fit or whether or not the windows had gone up/down after the top had been closed. I avoid rain whenever possible as this is not my only mode of transportation. I have been in rain since then and all is OK. I don't notice any additional wind noise or air leaks so you may simply want to check the top fitment as it is raised and lowered.

Keep us cab owners posted on what the final fix may be!

I used the library on this site to find a Porsche service manual on " 944 S2 sealing Body - cabriolet.

Page 15 showed how to adjust the position of the front mounting channel with quarter window. I adjusted screw #2 at the base of the door ( you need to remove the panel) and moved the top of the quarter window inward. The adjustment was off about an inch, which moved the top of the window inward about 1/4". It now tucks UNDER the top moulding and seals perfectly.

Good find ther Brian. That adjustment would never be found by trial and error.
