Bumper Covers and Idiots
#1

So naturally I have holes in my front bumper cover that I need to full with the plugs. Interestingly I did not find much when I searched for bumper plugs. Anyway, the problem that I have is the stupid license plate bracket has distorted the bumper cover itself. Sort of little humps around where the holes are. Anyone ever heated up the bumper cover to get it back to original shape? ANy other ideas?

It looks totally stupid and makes me want to spend the next 10 years of my life campaigning for a national "no front license plate" law - but alas, today I would settle for some good ideas on how to make my bumper cover flat again.

Thanks

Yes, the plugs are the easy part. The warped bumper cover won't be fixed with the plugs though. I'll post a picture to provide a better perspective of the problem I am trying to solve.

I tried filling and sanding once. Looked a little better but not perfect. Maybe a professional could have done better.

You could try removing the cover, then use a heat gun (carefully) and reshape the divots.

After drilling the hole to the proper size for the plug and trimming off the excess sticking up around the hole you should be able to flatten it back out with some heat from a heat gun.

Some of what creates the pucker is all the excess plastic in the hole being forced to the sides by the self tapping screw. Once you drill it most of the pressure should be relieved and a little heat should shrink the plastic back to its original shape.

I feel your pain with the front license plate. I was extremely pissed when I took delivery of my Ram and they had installed the front plate bracket after I told them not to install it and made my sales guy write it on all of the paperwork pertaining to the order as well as the dealer installed accessory work order. My 968 already had a plate on it but I'm considering removing it and plugging the holes.
