Brake pad replacement procedure
#1

I'm starting to get a faint 'grinding' sound when braking so I think my front brake pads need replacing.

Has anyone got a documented procedure (I haven't done it before on any car althought the mountain bike is pretty easy <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> )

What do you recommend for replacement pads? Are the low-dust versions any good?

What do I need to look out for?

TIA!

I'm a big fan of PBR (AXXIS) Metal Master pads. They are very reasonably priced, low dust and low noise, and not so aggressive that they shred your rotors.

As far as the procedure goes, Excellence did a write up a couple of years ago. The procedure is pretty standard except for the wear sensors. If you have a buddy that has done disc brakes before, he/she should be able to give you a hand.

I will try to find the time at work tonight to write up the procedure (night shift at a military prison) if I get the chance.

I would change the brake fluid while you are at it unless you know it has been changed in the last two years.
