funny stuff - i figured you couldn't hide out for too long

as for the debate threads, no need to rehash it, but i am still trying to get my head around some of those mysteries - definitely no need to be bothered or disgruntled though - it's just as much a subjective or personal thing that i want to understand it as it is for somebody to choose it - we both have that right - i just don't like having things not make sense in some way or another - heck, i'm still trying to understand why every stoplight intersection doesn't automatically have controlled left turns - what were they thinking?

Never stopped lurking....

The issue is not about who has what right to do what or whatnot or whether or not someone's desire is understood or agreed with, the issue was about the respect for someone's desire to do something that had zero inpact on anyone else.

I'll provide one analogy and then I won't say anymore:

I am not a religious person. Never have been, never will be as far as I can tell. I have never understood why people feel the need or the desire to belong to a religious organization or group (church). But, I respect their need/desire/want to do so. I don't agree with it, I don't understand such need/want/desire, I don't like it. But it is what it is and for that, I will gladly respect their choice. Perfect example is my wife.... She goes to church (Catholic) just about every Sunday. I don't and won't. I will always respect her decision to do so even though I will never agree with it and I will probably never fully understand it. Likewise, she respects my choice to not be involved in organized religion even though she does not agree with my view.

There always seems to be a thread every few months that stupifies me. Last one was the K&N debate.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

These threads do spoil an otherwise fantastic forum. I personally would like to see the administrators stepping into these threads to ensure the appropriate level of respect is maintained for each other.

to follow that analogy, without specifically commenting on the topic, i would want to understand it - that does not mean that i take away from their decision - that does not mean i need to respect the decision itself

respect is something earned, not given - it is an admiration for something - it is unfortunately often a misused word and misapplied concept

respecting a right and respecting a choice are not one and the same

i can respect a right to make a choice without having to respect the choice itself - to respect the choice, i need to understand it

i still don't have to agree with it, and i can respect it and still disagree with it, as long as i can understand it

as for impact, anything expressed here or anywhere has a potential impact on someone else - we all fail to remember that from time to time (including myself) - while we all have a right to express ourselves, and we encourage that here, that expression comes with responsibility to those who might read it, not necessarily understand it, and then misapply what they have read

the humor here is too often missed

what makes people take things so seriously? what makes people apply emotion to everything? none of the stuff here matters in the greater scheme of things - there is no need to apply emotion - i generally switch them off when i am in front of the screen - more mysteries of life i suppose

advice to all: lighten up - go get a drink and relax - i am

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite sayings...

"There are no atheists in foxholes"

Seriously, cool that you and Mrs. biotechee have such different points of view and make it work. All I can think to say is...Hallelujah!
