Quote:Same in Pa. they are allowing take out drinks. You have to keep them in the back seat or trunk. Politicians are as useless as tits on a boar. Brains and thought process don’t occur in a politicians mind. Helping bars and restaurants is an import goal. Increasing drinking and driving is not.

So true.    And just like a virus, stupidity must be contagious in the political arena, because surely not all politicians start out dumb ( maybe only 75 % of them  Wink )  but it seems soon after that are immersed in the system and a part of that environment, they come up with some of the most illogical , nonsensical decisions imaginable .     Have a happy, and safe holiday all !    Not a bad day to stay home and BBQ, albeit just with family ..
Didn't know where to put this, so I thought here would do.

Regarding the present social unrest which through media transmission paints a very rough picture of life in the urban USA at the moment, I hope that all you guys are okay.  I'm sure you are all affected by what is being beamed into your living rooms, but I hope that is the extent of it and that you and your loved ones are all okay.

Best wishes, Robert
It is interesting to note who is doing what. Media outlets across the spectrum show the same pics. Destroying property, stealing and looting in not exercising free speech. Despite some pundits downplaying or excusing this behavior it is still illegal. As usual, the people most in need are the ones who will pay the price for this aberrational behavior for years to come. One needs only to look at Baltimore. I could go further back in time but most Americans don’t know what history is and at best don’t remember.

Ask a business owner whose business has been destroyed or has been beaten trying to protect his business about their opinions on this  exercise of free speech and progressives might be surprised. This reminds me of 1968 when Nixon ran on a law and order platform. Same as 1972. Anyone remember what happened?

I have a new thing to help me pass the lockdown time away

i have just bought a 1980 Honda CB750 F, been tucked up in a shed since 1999, so plenty to do to get it back on the road, pics to follow

and yes I can ride, I was a RAC star rider instructor in the early 80’s

Thank you Robert !
Also agreeIng completely with Bob (  RAP ) .   Not something that happens in 100 % of cases  Wink .

It’s also very unfortunate that the term “progressive“  of which I thought highly,  has been tarnished because it’s now associated with political extremists of the liberal spectrum, clueless representatives like AOC.

So given you're "at risk" Waylander how did you track it down? Or was somebody tidying up their place during confinement and stuck it on eBay?
Ah it was on eBay, and my brother who is not at risk and a key worker, who has been working all the way through this crisis, went and sorted it out

expecting delivery Sunday,

I got it at a good price, so once restored to road worthy, it will be sold to fund the next project

Dan we are all completely impressed by your public confession of your limitations. You will serve as a role model to us all for The art of thoughtful self reflection.   Now how many of us will get down on bended knee and apologize for our white privilege?

Hey!  Limitations?!  I have no damn limitations  ( as you can see,  my humility and modesty is also limitless  Wink )

I won’t  “take a knee”, or apologize for my race,  but that doesn’t mean I’m not empathetic to those who are disenfranchised, oppressed,  discriminated, etc.

On a related note .. a victim of Covid 19 story .

I talked with a homeless man yesterday and asked him how he ended up this way.
He said, "Up until last week, I still had it all.
I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed,
I had a roof over my head,
I had HDTV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library.
I was working on my MBA on-line. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical benefits coverage.
I felt sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce?"
"Oh no, nothing like that," he said. "No, no...
"I was unexpectedly paroled".

Here’s to 2020 - unlike anything I’ve seen and experienced in my 63 years young life..

Okay, that was unexpectedly funny .... I should have known ???
You really believe history will exist in the future? History is constantly revised. The history I grew up with isn’t taught so it doesn’t exist. Don’t apologize for your race, apologize for your white privilege. In the interest of racial diversity I’m willing to believe that privilege equates to success. So on your knee mofo. 63 is pretty old. Are people that age really capable of understanding? Seems to me that unless you are young <30 with no assets, minimal job, sketchy education, heavy debt on credit cards ,high student debt, pay minimal or no taxes and you don’t vote you are really not able to understand much of anything. You are just old. Time has passed you by. What could you possibly know?

?
The joke was humorous, but as someone who literally has spent a lifetime studying prisons, it is pure fantasy. If it was such a great place, they wouldn't have fences or officers. Jokes like this just serve to reinforce a fallacy, which the weak minded and the uninformed see as truth.

Most jokes ( if not all..) have little basis in reality, and all “reinforce” one fallacy or another .    If analyzed, and the topic taken seriously, there would be no point to any of them .

Agreed, History is an interesting and changing concept. Written by the victors? Written by those able to write (and with their own political/social or other bias)? But "history" is now changing with the onset of present technology. Almost everyone carries a cellphone capable of recording history ..... the problem now is fake news and the spin doctors. Although information is now more readily available it is just as open to manipulation as ever. So possibly the issue is not "history" itself, but the awareness and ability of the readers of history to sift through the dross and accurately assess something closer to reality....now that's a skill worth teaching in school.
If sifting occurred I would agree. Most are too lazy to read more than a few sentences or a paragraph.

And that's the point of it (critical thinking?) being part of the school curriculum ...... it's like "ethics" which also should not be a discrete topic; both "ethics" and "critical thinking" should be distributed appropriately throughout the different academic levels keeping pace with intellectual development.   That way thinking about, instead of accepting as true, any given information would be second nature.  We're only taken in because we are in general honest and trusting of others.  Sorry, professional academic, can't help jumping on my soapbox every now and again

And BTW - have a good weekend y'all Smile  Smile
