This is how Gen. Z.  keeps busy these days ..

Quote:There is a lot of disparate and conflicting info coming out everyday. The only constant is wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and not being In a crowded indoor setting. Aerosol transmission is positively frightening. Akin to smelling cigarette smoke but not being able to see the smoker. Now is not the time to get sloppy and lazy. After several months of practicing this routine we now do one would think we’d have it down. Guess it depends on your situation, age and comorbidity.
Rap I hate to say it but that example would have been a very good way of impressing on people how dangerous airborne contamination can be.  "You know what it is like to smell smoke but not see the smoker .... well it's like that, but you can't smell the smoke!"
I’m sorry to disappoint you but I was like trying to learn you a point. It is really quite amazing that even after all these months the accuracy of the info posted by our 4th estate elite is rarely correct. It’s analogous to rumor mongering and whispering. We are all so desperate for info that we listen.

Not disappointed Rap.  Notwithstanding the vagaries of present day information, the "smoker" analogy is excellent because almost everyone in the world will instantly understand the point.  Almost everyone has experienced that smell of smoke without being able to see the smoke itself or the originator; and so will get the point about airborne contagions without further explanation.  That's enough praise for one day   -_-  -_-

I went to a family Father’s Day gathering at the invitation of my daughter. Without a purposeful thought I found myself being one of those people. Social distancing was very difficult to practice and no one wore a mask including me. It would seem that gatherings can be dangerous in terms of following safe practices. Multiple that in larger gatherings with people you don’t know.

COVID-19 build #3

This is model of a Grumman F7F-3N Tigercat night fighter assigned to VMF(N)-542 based a Kimpo, Korea in 1950. My Uncle, Master Gunnery Sargent James Vais flew in this particular aircraft numerous times, including one mission where his plane was the higher escort for an F7F-3P photo reconnaissance plane on a mission over Vladivostok, USSR. I gave it a weather beaten finish typical of forward deployed Marine aircraft at that time.

Great stuff Chris !  Thanks for sharing .   Both of my uncles ( mom side and dad side ) were fighter pilots , but only one took up model planes building as a full time hobby after retirement .  I remember with fond memories going to his house while I was a kid, and looking in awe at the dozens of models he had built , placed everywhere from tables to desktops, to several ones suspended from the ceiling with translucent fishing lines.

Spectacular Chris, great to see!

"There's no keeping us down" ...... Well it's certainly trying, let me tell you about my last month or so ......

End of July my mother in law had a stroke (she was a 94 year old sweetheart) she was hospitalized, but because of Covid we were unable to visit!

Doctors declared she was nearly gone so we could visit, so we hopped on a plane and visited.

Our visits really cheered her up, she was taken off the critical list, so again we were unable to visit!

Head home to France, self isolate and also unable to return to UK for two weeks.

Mid August she takes a turn for the worse and passes the next day. Very sad, but she was 94 and had a great life.

We head to UK where we must isolate, again, for two weeks prior to the funeral.

The funeral is set for next Wednesday.

Today, Saturday, it was announced that as of next Tuesday Wolverhampton, where we are isolating, is going into lockdown.

So after the funeral there will be no wake and I can no longer travel to visit my son and my brother.

Oh, and our return flight has been canceled.

I'm not writing for sympathy, I know many are far worse off than us ..... but what a PITA!!!!

PS and as I've said many times .... I hope you guys are okay in the West Coast fires area.
Very sorry to hear about your mom’s passing,  my father also died at 94 after a good life, so although a sad event I nonetheless took comfort in that aspect ; he enjoyed a long life so that it lessened the sorrow .   My grandmother and my grandfather both lived to 102, and 100 , respectively,  but as I recall , the last four or five years of their lives were very hard on them, could barely stand up so maybe not great to live THAT long if that’s the case ..

As for your travel hassles, oh man, indeed a PITA, and yes there are others in worse situations, but that’s always the case and with almost everything you can think of, so although that might add some perspective it does not lessen the annoyance .

Thanks for your thoughts , we have done well, after a few weeks of very toxic air which made this area look like a scene from Blade Runner,  but at least the fires themselves never got too close to where we live, so we’re very fortunate .

Thanks Dan. Yes indeed it is quality of life that matters. Mama was almost never ill and looked after herself as she aged. So 94 good years and just one month in hospital at the end.... I'll settle for that! And it sounds like you're going to make old bones Smile

Santé a tous!!

Doubtful, genetics have little to do with it when it comes to me ; I’ll probably die in some car accident ( which considering the way I drive is not all that improbable) .   However, I have followed very closely in my father’s footsteps ; he started the day with a glass of cognac ( yes, in the morning ),  ended the day with a glass of cognac , and in between he had a couple of glasses of red wine with his meals.  Every day .   Never touched a cigarette though..   And he was never sick in his entire 94 years life.

Yay, got some rain yesterday. Cleared out the air, definitely returned to our fall weather pattern, cooler and wetter going forward. Leaves starting to turn. The roads have dried so I might take the 968 on a run through wine country this afternoon.

As far as COVID is concerned, I don't feel safe being around other people. Took the dog for a walk in our local park here and ran across a bunch of 20/30 olds having a gender reveal party. They chose to reveal the babies gender by setting off a pair of pink Roman candles. Fireworks are prohibited in City parks. Sadly, one of the wildfires currently burning was set off by a similar stunt and it resulted the death of one firefighter, the loss of homes, and a cost 10s of millions in dollars to fight the fire. None of these idiots were wearing masks and they were all in close proximity to one another. Here is hoping COVID-19 takes a few of these idiots out.

Completely agree with everything Chris posted.

BTW, those ( gender reveal party ) idiots have been charged and awaiting indictment, but now I hope involuntary manslaughter charges will be added to everything else they’re facing,

I guess I’m just a rube but what exactly is a gender reveal party? Is part of the party format burning down huge swaths of land and homes. When is Ca. Making practicing being a pedophile legal? Is this a business  proposition  to develop the child abuse industry to raise tax revenue? Or is it a proposition to expand the offerings in the prostitution industry? Can you imagine the ad revenue? Might stem the tide of purported citizen out of state relocations.

Dan don’t wish to die in a car accident. You could just as easily live crippled for life. Do you really follow your Dad’s daily routine?

Rap I asked the same question and was amazed by the answer. It has to be for numbskulls and so setting fire to three States is probably to be expected.... right up there with Covid denial etc etc.

Hmm, I haven’t heard of any plans by this state to adopt the Catholic Church doctrine and its priests’ m.o  :glare:

Yes I do try to adhere to my dad’s regime, to the greatest extent possible .  It’s not always cognac, but some liquor or another ( mostly tequila ) every morning and every evening, and a couple in between, and although I may not drink wine every single day with my meals ( I drink beer with food quite often ) , I only drink red wine .

Below is my pandemic emergency cabinet.. I do keep it well stocked at all times.

Above is the summer stock , below is the winter stock, which , as you can see has “a bit more “ tequila

RAP, a gender reveal party is a gathering where a pregnant couple reveals the sex of their unborn child to family and friends.

DS I hope that emergency supply is in your nuke shelter. That's one of the good things about wine cellars .... also the safest place in the house Smile Smile
I wasn't sure where to put this link, so if someone wants to move it that's fine by me. I hope the link works. The Bulldog looks a lot like a DeLorean
