If you still need a daily driver, sell the P and buy a used honda to hold you over.

Sell the Porsche? Oh I hope not, just finished my Garage-Ma-Hall, a 968 shrine!
Car will not start with a jump.
It was verified that the engine temp is normal and fan is coming on, just gauge goes wacky?!
Incidentally the current mechanic said last week he had a 968 come in with guess what...a problem starting.
Could the mfg of the starters be producing bum starters?

3 Batteries, 2 Starters, and then it was diagnosed to have a bad alternators. Alternator replaced.
Picked car up Sunday night, it ran great and then today same problem. Temp gauge spikes, power gauge dips below "12". Turn car off. Car is dead.
WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?
ugh, I lost my company car when I was laid off, I cannot continue to have this issue?!
Help! Thanks, Steve

Thanks Flash
..at this point I will have to plan to visit Pete.
I will also check out what you suggest. This car never had this problem until I took it to the dealer!

EUREKA!
Mechanic found a problem with the main ground between the battery and the block. Apparently it is working intermittently. When it was first tested, it was fine, but the mechanic caught it in the act and we are now waiting for the cable to come in. Again 3 batteries, 2 starters, and an alternator and it was a lousy cable. I am hoping to have the car back this week. I have missed the whole summer and part of the fall. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I can't wait to get it back, get Steve from A-Z to detail it, and maybe take a day off from work to go look at leaves change color somewhere in PA.

A part number and the Porsche name on the starter, the original should be a Bosch. I have heard Sunset Porsche has good prices on them.
