Airbox mods
#1

What kind of mods have you guys tried on the 968 airbox. I have been thinking of adding a 2nd snorkel out of 1.5"- 2" piping. The stock snorkel seems looks a little restrictive where it bends to through the body, but I haven't actually measured it to see how it compares to the piping exiting from the airbox...

I just found Dave Greimann's widemouth snorkle, dave you still got that mold you did a really clean job.

Nope, the mold was broken on the second part. . There are, however other things that can be done, I'll let Flashy give the rundown.

You are right, the stock snorkel is restrictive and could use some work.

I cut the bend of with a hacksaw so it finishes just as it goes through the bulk head - sounds better now - though could do with something a bit more refined!

I have done the AB mod and it is well received in the SOTP (seat of the pants). I have a different setup than flash due to my background and different parts available to me. I'll post pictures after Flash's come out. I promised I'd wait. Like flash said "you won't be disappointed". BTW mine passed CA. smog tests. I think if its before the MAF you can do whatever you want.

I was looking at a few catalog after market products for cold air induction and have a suggested project for Dave G. to further improve the already improved air box...

Aesthetics may be a challenge, but installing tubes that lead from the cabin's air vents into the air box and then turning the A/C on, would get some cold air pumped right where you need it for MO' POWER !!

How about one of these?

BMC Carbon Air Box

They do one for the M3 so i can't see why it wouldn't work on a 968 - just replaces the entire air box.

Maybe - but my skeptical nature gets triggered when I read things like "dynamic intake", "true supercharging system", "conical flow variator", and "considerable increase in engine performance in power and torque" for a passive device like an air intake filter. Someone - prove me wrong, please.

You are right Jim. There is no fancy technology in a filter system. The best designs maximize filter area and reduce flow restrictions.

The ad copy is a lot of hype for sure. If they could include some basic pressure drop measurments, that would tell the whole story.

Dave, you've obviously missed it. Since this is a "true supercharging system", there must be a pressure boost, not drop.

Why not just home-depot up an intake...? I mean, if you want something that performs, and don't mind it looking like doodoo, you could probably do something up for less than $40 including the price of the filter.

Just a thought.

I been drving my TL lately since I have to go so far for work, its a great sleeper, the drop gives away a little...
