Airbag Light
#21

Circuit board is a little difficult, but there are only a few transistors and capacitors. I can´t upload pics to the forum but if you send me your mail, i can send you all the info in a zip files.
This info was taken from rennlist forums four months ago.

Greetings

Let's see if we're all talking about the same device. Here's the circuit diagram. Also a photo I took to show the connections to the OBD connector. (Ooops, it's a PPT file that I'm told I don't have permission to upload.) I don't have a photo of the device, but could take and post one shortly, if folks are interested.

I have that one. Cct is a little confusing because there is one AND gate that drives an LED with no connection and another that has no VCC. If both of these were wired to VCC they would be on permanently which makes no sense because there is already a power LED. Thus I will breadboard this schematic first to see what's up.
Maybe the other one is better as it uses discrete compnents?

If you make the circuitboard as seen on the schema that Anchorman uploaded, it will work with the scantool4 device. Only some settings in the software you have to change.
But that is a peace of cake.

You can read the topic about the little circuitboard. It is completly described.

No, i´m talking of this diagram. Is easy and works with scantool without issues.

Sorry, i forgot it. Here is the info about interface. The design is for a 964, but works fine on the 968, at least in mine. You just have to eliminate switch sw1 marked as in the previous photo.

That interface is the same as I described. It works with the famous software from Doug.

My airbag light has been on since the dash was recovered a year ago. Pete is going to be fixing this for me in the summer luckily. Until then, is there a way to shut off the ! light and disconnect the airbag that is not working anyways??

you can disconnect it and install a resistor there, but to shut it off requires a reset device

However, if you don't know what caused the light to come on, disconnecting the steering wheel airbag and substituting a resistor might end up accomplishing absolutely nothing. Ask me how I know - it turned out that my "fault" was a loose connection on the passenger airbag. Your best path is to have it diagnosed - or attempt to clear it with the device discussed in this thread and see if it comes back.

I heard/read somewhere that if you leave the battery disconnected for long enough (Don't know how long, but a guess a day or two should do) the DME clears/loses all the fault codes. Don't know if this is true, but it is worth a shot.

Doesn't work for my 1993 CDN car. I bread-boarded the cct last night and tonight, if I have the right size nails I'm putting that puppy out to pasture.

I was ready to plug this cct in when I realized we had 2 different puppies in the kennel. The modified cct from the 993 has pins 15, 7, 16 and 5 in use as L, K +12, gnd respectively. But, the photo I have of the plug shows 7,8,12,10 as the proper connections. Please enlighten me as to which is the real 968 pin out, don't want to let the smoke genie out of the transistors quite yet

Answer: Get you macro camera out and take many very awkward photos until you can see the connector pins. 7,8,12,10 are the 968 ones.

Finally killed that sucker! After one cold solder joint, one bad connection on my EL bread-board and a change in baud rate from 8800 to 9600 in the cfg file I finally got connected and cleared my airbag light. I was unclear as to whether the Motronic we have is the 964 or the 993 version so the bit rate through me for a bit (no pun intended), 2^3 permutations to the solution. Glad the author mentioned the polling on the RTS line so that narrowed one problem down quickly; the rest was a DVM and experience.
I'll solder the cct on a proto board permanently now that I have it working and clean up all the wiring. I'm keeping the nails though, what a brilliant solution to a 90.00 connector!

I only have it on a breadboard right now so the usual sloppy make-it-work project. I will solder it properly and probably put it in a little plastic project box later. Note I didn't want to spend too much time upside down trying to put in 4 pins into the connector so I opted for a fused lighter plug instead.

Hey jr how do you like your dash recover? Who did it? Did you use leather? How about some pictures?

Thanks

Hi DaveN, smart solutions to pick up the 12 volt from the cigaretlighter. But when using the lighter you can't connect to the alarmsystem to read the codes. Because you have to turn of the ignition to connect. At that point you don't have a plus at the interface anymore...

Light on almost every car (?) has 12V no matter what the ignition state - 968 always has 12V there even with the ignition off.
I was bored today so here is the semi-finished product.
Sorry for the blurry macro but at least you can see the placement, I only have one jumper, rats!
