So my light comes on and flashes 3 times then goes off. Repeats every 10 seconds. Since my adapter for my code reader doesn't function, wondering if anyone has had this experience. Danke!

Flashing ECL normally indicates a serious issue with the O2 sensor, it maybe a temporary situation and go away again with out leaving a code in the ECU


can be caused by a misfire putting extra fuel in the cat


The O2 sensor should be replaced every 60-70k miles

Sold new in Fla. I believe I'm doing it correctly. Ignition on, engine not running, depress accelerator for about 3 seconds, release. CEL flashes once then stays on. No codes.

Flash ..,,,,, Flash then 5 flashes in a row if it's done right

Think you are going wrong on the first part, need to hold the pedal flat to the floor till the first flash

this only works on USA cars, the ROW cars do not have a engine check light

Huh ? Our cars have such a thing ?! I've never seen that in my 968s , unless it only comes on when everything else lights up as you turn on the key to start the car , and I simply did not pay attention .. The only engine warning lights I'm aware of is the " check engine " ( red ) letters at the bottom right of the VDO, and of course the big, frightning " ! " top , center one .

Hmm, I wonder if that light is a difference between US and ROW cars.  We have to have it spelled out for us and the ROW get just a light that looks like an engine and they can figure it out on their own?  Can that be the case why Waylander's description is different?

No such icon in the U.S. 968 cars .    ( or at least, I have not seen it.. )     It's there in my  MBZ, my Maserati,  my Jeep, my NIssans... but not the 968s.

In the us cars standard. In the row cars you must add a bulb and a connector in the dashboard. Then it works.

This does NOT exist in U.S. 968s. ! It's not in my six speed and it's not in my tiptronic ..so unless cabs have it , it's a ROW cars thing only ..

My 93 US Coupe displays the words "CHECK ENGINE" (but no engine icon) in red in the right side gauge cluster just below the "AIRBAG"  light (bottom of the cluster) when the ignition switch is in the second position.  First switch position is accessories, second position illuminates all the warning lights, third engages the starter and releases.

I just posted the pic so it's clear for everyone how it would look like. I'm not sure if such an icon is common in all or most US cars (not just 968's).

Bulti, just start your car and you should see the warning light during the start up process. Let us know if it's an icon or just words like us cars.
