Airbag light - steering wheel lock?
#1

Airbag light came on with the first start after a couple of days sitting. (I'm at 7 months of ownership and close to getting 968 bingo - just need "pinion bearing" on my card Big Grin )

Battery seemed to be fine - it was only sitting for 4 days so I doubt it was discharged. Started right up. Oil level light came on too but it was a quart low and the light went out with a top off.

Last thing I did before leaving a few days ago was to lock the steering wheel. On my car, I have to crank the wheel 90 degrees to get it to lock. I noticed that it "pulled" the ignition switch up maybe a 1/2" in the dash housing when it locked - thought it was weird at the time but there's minimal play in the wheel or anything else wonky with the steering. This is probably the second time I've bothered to lock the wheel so I don't have much of a baseline.

So what happened? Is there an airbag sensor wire that runs through the ignition switch that could have been bent or crimped when I locked the wheel?

I think it has to do with the Sonora run! After 6 years of ownership my AB light came on too. No idea why, but I am accumulating the equipment necessary to reset it. I will let you know how it goes.

Waylander - what $40 cable?

(Too late for me anyway - I have a refurb Durametric already on the way. Nice people at the company there in Bend.)

I have been searching for when i bought the cable but no joy

but this one say it uses the same version of software 3.0.1.5 or something close,

works with windows XP

then you need a 14 pin to 19pin adaptor

Got my Durametric this afternoon - excellent customer service - called and got a great deal on a refurbished unit yesterday AM, shipped by noon yesterday, and in my sweaty trembling hands by this afternoon. Cleared the light in just a couple minutes.

So the codes ended up being 30 - pass airbag and 8 - pass pretensioner - leaving me very stumped as to the cause (did I miss something about these cars having seat belt pretensioners?) But whatever - lights off for now and Im happy.
