Today was a bad day :( Main loom Electrical short
#1

I visited a specialist this morning to measure up for a roll bar/ cage, the car drove brilliantly for the 100 miles there but when I left I noticed the big red warning light flickered on a few times it was linked to the initial depression of the clutch pedal, this had happened a week ago but went away as soon as it appeared so I thought nothing of it. I drove about 200 Yards and there was a smell of electrical burning then the whole dash went out. I stopped, checked under the dash, couldn't see anything but the fuse for the instruments had blown.

I replaced the fuse and the dash came to life but has an ABS warning and the alternator is not charging. I had the alternator checked and it's working fine so the fault is in the loom. It seems that the return spring for the clutch pedal has some sort of shaft in the centre, when the pedal is depressed this shaft initially moves around 1/2" to the rear of the car before moving forwards, it seems this has been rubbing on the main loom and has shorted some wires together

I'm sure I can repair the loom but getting to it looks like it might require the removal of the whole dashboard and heater assembly, looks like that's my Easter holiday sorted!

Your's is one of those with the steering wheel on the wrong side, so not sure on this. But on the normal cars the fuse panel is on the left hand side and you can unbolt it and gently lift it up and get access to the area behind the steering wheel.

Love that "wrong side" stuff. Next thing you know you'll be telling us which way is "up" in space.

Well I had a bit of a result, I removed the seat and steering wheel (and the dash display) and then was able to lie upside down under the dash. I managed to unclip and move the loom enough to get to the problem, it was tight and my diagnosis was correct the clutch spring centre pin had worn through the loom making 4 Wires fuse together. I've repaired the wires and the car is back to normal

Didn't anybody tell you the 968 electrical was contracted out by Porsche and done by Lucas?
