Electrical Connector behind Distributor
#1

Good day all,

New to the 968 community after owning a 944S2 for a couple years. I have had an issue with the connect that goes into the distrubutor. It is the one situated on a clamp right behind the distributor cap by the valve cover. I was replacing a leaking head gasket cover when I noticed this was unplugged. Not sure if I accidentally knocked while take of the cover but when I went to plug it back in the male plug basically disintegrated on me.

What I could use help with if someone could take a picture of the positioning of the wires in their car. What I am looking for is which side the red and black wire go into the female connector. Since i have no idea which wire goes were now.

It's a bad pic but I hope you can get the idea of what I'm looking at.

The infamous crispy hall sensor. There are plenty of similar threads about the same topic. Sorry I can't help you with the wiring order at the moment, but here's a link to replacement connectors.

And here's a thread where Xrad originally posted the same.

After mine crumbled last year I just went ahead an replaced the whole unit after all it was 19 years old' price wasn't that bad. When you do fix it think about a D1R heat shield. This will save the bits above the exhaust mani from any more pain.

Bill, I just replaced my hall sensor a couple days ago, and since the old one was crumbling badly, I broke it all the way open for you. The wire positions on the male connector:

1 - Red

2 - Green

3 - Black

Now the male connector has a "key" molded in right by the 3 on one side of the connector. It makes sense that the key would mate with a slot in the female side, so look for the black wire to go there, and so forth.

Thanks for all the help. It's good to know i'm not alone in this. I think eventually i'll be replacing the hole unit but in the meantime I'm just going to jimmy rig it together. I think I got info now.
