Gentleman,

Approximately 3 years ago Jeff Coe wrote an article in the 968 Register about my 968; his thoughts were that my '94 cab, tiptronic with polar silver paint and full leather Flamenco red interior is a 1 of 1 968. Once again I was stopped this morning by a bloke who pulled up and wanted to buy it. Alas, it may be time to sell for a variety of reasons. It has been well maintained and currently has 112,000 miles. My question - I have no idea what a fair price would be? I would appreciate thoughts that this league of extraordinary gentleman may have. Thanks very much.

Always an interesting question? What wouldn't you sell it for? Does this buyer know cars? Does he know Porsche's and 968's? Is he chomping at the bit to purchase it? Do you get Panorama and have you tried to place it in their new scaling system? Do you have to sell it? Might be a place to start and yes I know I did not answer your question.

Hi Jimmy, stick Hagerty's under their nose and say you're somewhere between #1 and #2 ..... good luck!

Not to rain on anyone’s parade but using Hagerty ‘s estimated values guide may raise one’s expectations to unrealistic levels and end up in a major disappointment when you try to sell the car. The guide is great if you use Hagerty ‘s insurance arm to insure your car with an “agreed value” policy, but many other insurance companies balk at those values and claim they are ( allegedly ) inflated anywhere from 50% above real market value, to as much as 100 % or even more .. I’m not suggesting that is categorically true, just because other insurers state that ( maybe they don’t want to pay out that kind of money since they don’t offer agreed value policies ) but search : “ are Hagerty listed values inflated “ and then fact check the findings, but you’ll see quite a few discussions from many different car forums , from exotic foreign cars to collector muscle cars, come up on this topic, with sufficient examples pointing to that inflated valuation as a distinct probability in many cases. Not in all cases but enough to make one cautious . The only reliable gauge for car values is a listing of recently sold ones pricing, not the asking prices , nor the generic pre-sale guides listings , such as Blue Book, or lists in various Auto Magazines .. The problem with the 968 is the lack of sufficient sales and related detailed info to establish any reasonable and credible parameters .. How many 968s have sold in the last year which were in “concours” condition ?! How many sold which were in “excellent” condition ? Unfortunately the majority of 968s which do sell are fairly high mileage ones that “show their age” , so that price data detracts from arguing a 968 should command a lot more money because of what Hagerty shows .. But it might, IF you find the right buyer who has his or her mind dead set on a 968 or at least very interested in the car once they learn what a great automobile it really is . What Bob ( RAP ) posted above re the considerations which should come into play is spot on !

IMO.

Do Hagerty's also have a "sold for" list as a follow up to their guide price .... that would be more realistic.

And of course don't forget to thoroughly authenticate any claims being made by the vendor. This shot taken at our local garage today Smile

At least 2hp, and an extra .1g in the turns,

I think my 968 is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it, the more the better in my book, but it does need some money spent on it, cosmetics really,

but even in its ropey state I would want 12k for it

So I wonder where do I fit in?. Only two TRUE 1994 Cabriolets where in Amethyst Metallic. I wonder if Hagerty even knows that?

Yours is a beautiful color. In today’s monochrome world I wonder if it would be appreciated?

One of my fav colors

Rare and beautiful does not really come into it, its worth what anyone is willing to pay, and that is an unknown factor

I thought I'd scan a popular site to see if 968s featured. There are just 5 on this site for the whole of France ....
