968 Values
#81

The Guards Red/Chestnut interior did not make the reserve set by the owner.

It will interesting to see what this 95 Speed Yellow cab does.

Women, especially the good looking, loves the color ( Hush!!!!! ,don't tell my wife). That's one good reason to like it. I have never had such an inexpensive car that would catch so much attention when on the road. That alone makes it a lot of fun.

News flash. It's not the cars color, it's not you, it's the car. I have two white ones. Boring but get looks all the time. I used to think it was me until I came to my senses!

I was contacted by a salvage yard offering to pay $ 12 k for the 968 tip ( which I had recently advertised on sale for $ 20 k ) . That leads me to believe our cars' value in parts alone must be at least double their market value . But then again, probably every other car is worth a lot more parted out , not just the 968.

I kindly informed them the $ 20 k price was for someone who can enjoy the car for what it is , not tear it apart and then sell the bits and pieces for profit , but I informed them they could have it for $ 30 K . They ( not surprisingly ) declined .

Would you have sold it to them if they offered $20k? What do you care what a buyer does with what they now own?

Maybe . Probably . Don't care all that much really, but it was just something about a chop shop making a lowball offer in combination with the obvious subsequent disposition of the car that bothered me for some reason . A matter of principle I suppose , remember Flash's insistence on the terms of sale of this forum ..to which almost all of us, including myself replied with " why would you care and what business is it of yours how the new owners will manage it and under what rules ". ?! It's a little bit like that , there's some emotional component to selling this car for me ..

A gut reaction, but my thought was : right, I'm going to give a junkyard a new engine on which I just spent $ 10 K, and a supercharger $ 5 K , and then the rest of an entire car for the silly $ 12 K they want to pay me, so they can gut it and make who knows how much profit , instead of someone else getting enjoyment out of driving it .. Nah, I don't need money that much ..

I would not sell my mechanically excellent and cosmetically good 968 to any shop that intended to part it out. I'm in it to preserve as many of these cars as possible, only use crashed donors to help maintain running vehicles.

Off my soapbox,

Well I'm certainly saving parts. However I don't recommend the way that mine came about!

Well the speed yellow went for $29000 last week with 72000 miles on it as Bob mentioned. That would give me an idea of the value of mine. Same condition, same year, almost same mileage, rare color.......so what do I do?.........I keep the darn car...who is in a hurry?

Speed yellow - not to be confused with summer yellow - has always been, and will most probably continue to be the most sought color in 968s , and it may command at least a + 50 % premium over market value ( all else being equal vs any other color 968s ) if not even more ..

i just don't get the fascination with yellow.  yellow is the worst color to drive, if you don't want to catch the attention of the police.  it is the most easily seen color of the human eye.  perhaps that is why people like it.  many also like other things which are "loud" to the human senses.  maybe their senses are just dulled, and it takes something out on the edge to even register.  i don't know.  it's just fugly to me though regardless.  not a fan of any of the M&M and/or Barbi colours on the 968, and really don't like non-metallic colours period.  they just don't sparkle and show off the lines the same.  paint should be metallic.  wheels should be silver.  lenses should be red or yellow.  and you don't wear socks with sandals of any kind, and no dark socks with shorts.

lol - going back to my coffee now

Yo careful now about white comments. By happenstance I ended up with two white 968's and a white truck. White is my least fav color. Imagine going to the track in a white car and then picture all the black marble marks and how easy they are to see. But of all colors could you imagine silver? Good lord, boring!
