+1 on tama 's post. I,m thinking the offers will be too low ( relatively speaking..) for the seller to let go of that car. Then again, maybe Jerry Seinfeld learns of this one and feels like adding one more rare car to his Porsche collection, in which case $250k + is pocket change

I'll go 250K. I'd buy it if it wasn't for those 3 college educations I'm paying for,

On the topic of growing interest in 968's.......

A year ago when I was still searching for a 968, there were always 15 to 20 on ebay for sale. Today, my same search ebay yields maybe 3 or 4.

I'll say it again, regardless of their technology and impressive power, the cars being produced these days are carbots. Push the start button and steer, no skill necessary. Further, they seem to all have the angry look of an alley cat that has been pissed on then lit on fire. I see people take two or three long looks at the 968 and believe it's mainly due to its refreshing and ageless styling. When I look at the design I am reminded of such rolling works of art as the Jag XKE. And after all that.....you drive it and your are instantly in love.

Auction starts at 11:00 am this coming Friday and the 968 Turbo RS is lot 60 so it will be afternoon before it goes on the block. A fellow 968er will be at the event and will hopefully provide us feedback on the selling price and the new owner.

An indicator of the demand for the Porsche 968 Turbo RS was the sale last night on Ebay of an unbuilt 1:43 Starter resin model of this car which sold for a record price of $290.01! It will cost another $300 to have it built, painted and decaled professionally. Almost $600 for a 1:43 model makes the $325K asking price for the 1:1 model sound reasonable - lol!

that's funny.. but hey, maybe the same buyer of the model will end up with the real car as well

Mel from Jacksonville attended the auction and just called me and advised:

- Porsche Turbo RS sold for $315,000! That is sweet!! Mel spoke to the new owner Prescott Kelly, well known as a former President of Porsche Club of America, who also knew Matt Drendel well. Prescott advised Mel that the car will be displayed at a car museum in Colorado - more details as we get them.

- The Turbo S clone sold for $66,000 which is also a great price.

These public sales are great for the value of our cars. Since Prescott is still very involved with PCA, look for an article on the Turbo RS in Panorama in the future.

Great news, congrats to Prescott and many thanks to Mel in Jacksonville for serving as our 968 man-on-the-scene. Look forward to buying him dinner and drinks at Hershey, if he is able to come on April 21.

not in a million years would i have thought that would happen. obviously he really wanted that car. i guess it could make sense to some degree since it is going to a museum and can be a write off. but then that's how most of the auction sales go. either collectors that don't care about the price, or people looking to use it as a business expense.

just goes to show that everybody is different. you couldn't have paid me to take it off their hands. go figure.

Don't forget, for it to sell at the price there had to be other people bidding against him, willing to pay that price so there are other crazy enthusiasts!

lol -people bid on stuff all the time out there that they don't want, often just to drive the price up on other stuff. there are people who make their living by doing that.

Good for Prescott and the Museum, that is the ONLY justification for the price at which it sold, but I hope no one thinks that will add one single dollar to the value of, or create any more demand for the 968..unless it's from another museum..

The clone went for 66k?? Frickin sweet. Im not convinced that this sale will not effect the price of a properly done clone. Like they say though...opinions are like.......

Flash is right about bidders. I have been to art auction fundraisers and have bid up artwork that I'm not interested in buying but know someone else is. I don't make my living by this nor am I comped for it either. Actually it is a neat exercise in manipulating human behavior for a good cause!
