I am new to this car and the forum. This weekend we are getting a 1995 cabrio automatic, and it will be my wife's car. I will be doing whatever work needs to be done, and I have been doing this over the last 10 years with my own rolling restoration, a 1967 XKE ragtop. Looking forward to the forum. Judd

Wow, forget the 968 .. a  '67 XKE convertible ?!    Now that's a REAL car !     I'm green with envy  (  British racing green, if you must choose a shade ..)

Thanks. We are both pretty excited. Driving it back to Seattle after a few days at Disneyland. Assuming that the car makes it OK but it's a 968 what could go wrong. We will both have our dream cars, life is good. Yep the XKE is British green. Will keep you posted. Maybe need some good advice on the road, hopefully not going to need it. Not going anywhere unless the service records shoe a recent belts change.

Terrific! This is going to be fun, similar to XKE group but even better because fewer cars and owners. The car is as advertised and the only thing I see is perished gaskets at the door handles which I assume are unobtainium. Will try to send pictures after we leave Disneyland to head north on Tuesday. Most definitely will be coming to events. The top stays down!

Hi Judd,

Door handle and side mirror gaskets are cheap and readily available so you should have no problem there

Pelican or sunset, sonnen, gaudin any of the dealerships with easy to use online part shopping

There's a technique described in a thread here on the forum to use heat to very gently soften and stretch the gasket over the handle without having to remove the entire door handle . I did this carefully with a heat gun and it worked well made the job that much simpler

If you did indeed buy flash 's car ( well, his father-in-law's car to be more specific ) rest assured you bought a car that is in as meticulous of a shape as it gets .. still, it's a 968 and things will go wrong, but you have one of the great samples out there ..

I predict your wife will be very happy with this acquisition.

Yes, this site is a great resource, the members are a close-knit community, eager to hlep best we can, but sadly it seems tne forums' life is quickly approaching its demise so whatever free time you do have, put it to good use spending as much time as you can researching the wealth of information available here which should serve you and your new 968 well for many happy miles to come ..

Sounds like I have the car you are talking about. White cabrio with grey top, interior and tonneau cover, low miles and I'm a fanatic so very happy that a gasket is the only thing I can find that I can fix. Sorry to hear the forum is going away. So far it's the best one I've participated in, as I said. Just my luck but you will be hearing from me as long as possible and I hope the events continue, looks like Mendocino is annual? I will be coming to this in June of this year and both of us next year assuming this is an annual event. Judd

yup - that's the one.  great car.  i always meant to change out those gaskets.  they are just a pain, and i figured i had to leave something for the next guy to do.  i already did everything else.  figures though that you wanted some of the things i took off of the car.  the consignment lot didn't want anything non-stock, though they let me leave the M030 sway bars and the stereo.  unfortunately the things i pulled off (roll bar, strut tower brace, lower brace, modded airbox) sold already.  i do still have the chip i made for it, and i think i have a lower brace here.

Unless your wife plans to violently throw that car into corners,the strut tower brace adds little value to anything ..the lower brace however, tightens the ride / road feel very nicely , and although the combination of he two braces does complete the overall handling improvement, given the choice of only one of the two the lower brace would , without question, be my pick. IMHO .

strut tower braces on these cars are tricky.  the OEM tower hardware is very weak.  i had to design in a certain amount of flex to prevent ripping that apart.  the other braces on the market are too either stiff, and ultimately will destroy that hardware, or required removal of the fuel rail cover.  they are fine on track cars, which don't see a lot of use, and it doesn't matter so much what it looks like, but on a street car they will end up either costing money in repair, or looking cobbled together.  that's exactly why i designed mine the way i did.  i was not fond of the idea of doing damage, and i like a pretty engine bay.
