968 Cabrio in Seattle

A   pretty   engine bay? Pretty? Do you mean clean and orderly or pretty?

clean, orderly, polished and waxed, no exposed wires or fuel lines, yada yada.  that fuel rail cover hides a multitude of aesthetic sins, and keeps the connectors cleaner.

my race cars have always been much cleaner under the hood than my street cars.  it kept the stewards very happy at inspection time.

Quote:strut tower braces on these cars are tricky.  the OEM tower hardware is very weak.  i had to design in a certain amount of flex to prevent ripping that apart.  the other braces on the market are too either stiff, and ultimately will destroy that hardware, or required removal of the fuel rail cover.  they are fine on track cars, which don't see a lot of use, and it doesn't matter so much what it looks like, but on a street car they will end up either costing money in repair, or looking cobbled together.  that's exactly why i designed mine the way i did.  i was not fond of the idea of doing damage, and i like a pretty engine bay.

I agree about the beauty of an orderly engine bay, but I obsess about audio cables too.

As for the braces, I noticed a lot of difference in my cab when I installed the upper and lower ones, but the real difference was made when I installed the "roll bar". That made it drive like a totally different car. I would not have believed it if I had not experienced it. Now I can carve through corners without twitching the car to keep it on the line.

Can't wait to get the new tires on it as soon as the weather warms up a bit more.

Bob my red track car was immaculate to the point where stewards would tell me it was too clean. I waxed the underside of the hood which made it not only easier to clean but told you immediately if something was going on in the engine bay. It also gave them the assurance that you took good care of your car and paid attention to details.

agreed!  that was the primary reason for me doing it.  given that i was driving british sports cars, i didn't need any other excuses for them to black flag me

I'm convinced. Drove the car to Studio City this evening and feels like it's on rails anyway, may just do the lower brace, see you tomorrow Flash.

Yeah I drove that car also, it felt as solid and as planted as a brand new 968 leaving the factory floor.

I drove that car to Paso Robles and back for an event one  year...what a treat for a visiting "Easterner".

JMarten, rest assured that I remained well within all posted speed limits and handled each curve with the most delicate of touches. :ninja:

I also drove the car on a Paso Robles run, it's a really great car, kind of like driving a new 968.

JMarten, please note that Josh didn't say how carefully he handled the car, therefore any blemishes are clearly a result of his careless driving style  :glare:

Did I fail to disclose how I drove it? I never got it above 45 mph, you should have seen all the angry drivers on the 101.

I had the full insurance on that one, was prepared to toss the keys over the cliff with the rest of the car.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, but Judd will for sure. I'll be there next year. Will take more pics on the drive home and will post to an album once I figure out the two step process. Cheers, Marishka

Welcome Marishka,

It takes 5 posts before you have all access to the site. You should now be able to post a picture on your avatar, and to create an album.

Can wait to hear more about your experiences, many of us know the car well.

Enjoy your stewardship!

Jay

I drove that car on one of Flash's Ortega runs. He told me I was the only one he allowed to drive it. Gosh golly gee I'm so disappointed. But it's a great car. You're a lucky gal. Please don't speak to my wife!!
