yup, and Dodge's 840 HP Demon on their 2018 lineup is for the timid wimpy folk , right ?

Yep, Watch the prices start falling on the Demon and the even wimpier 707 HP Hellcat now. Was talking with the Sachs clutch distributor recently and he told me Hellcats are going thru clutches like every 500 miles.  Seems a lot of Hellcat buyers haven't driven a manual in years, if ever, and they are learning how to use a clutch on that car. Wonder what the clutch mileage will be on the Trans Am 455.

The only reason I would say no, is that Ferrari is planning to get 310 MPH out of a hybrid 1,200 HP car. So, what do I need the other 3,800 HP to do, run the A/C?

Rode in a friend's new GT3 today on our local mountain loop. I can't imagine what one of these mega-horsepowercars would be like on that road. Probably suicidal.

That being said, I need to see if I can switch my Tesla Model 3 deposit to the new sports car model. So I can go back to Dr. Porsche's roots with an electric car.

In today's headlines :

Umm, the excuse was what ? " I was going 137 mph because could't get this car to shift out of second gear .." ;-) :-)

And talk about a great state ( Iowa ) ; $ 330 fine for going 137 in a 70 zone ? In Ca , that would translate to maybe $ 5,000 or even more , after you add up a much heftier fine than in Iowa , then the court fees ( mandatory appearance ) the attorney fees ( and hopefully you may get lucky if he or she will convince the court to let you off without a reckless endangerment conviction ) , plus the cost to release your car from the impound yard, etc, etc..

So does the guy with the old Bugatti laugh at the guy with the new Buggati's stupidity for paying double for a slower car ? :-)

And meh, $ 6 Mil is pocket change by comparison to the '62 Ferrari GTO currently at the Monterey auction which already has an existing bid of $ 52 Mil and expected to go likely between $ 65 to $ 70 Mil. And that's slower than the Bugatti, so I can only conclude the trend is : slower = more money ? Too bad the 968 is a little quicker ( up to 60 mph anyway ) than that GTO , otherwise it would be pricier, no ?

So this is interesting ; the GTO sold for "only" $ 48 MIl ( in spite of what was a reported to be a $ 52 M silent bid on it ..ha, another marketing ploy BS ) , but the last 62 GTO sold at a private sale just a couple of years ago for $ 70 mil . So does this mean that public auctions are for the commoners so the cars are expected to sell for a lot less than those bought at private sales by people who have real money ? I mean come on, anyone can come up with $ 48 mil for a car, but it takes a special person to fork over 70 mil for the same car, no ?

$48 Million plus the 10% buyers fee puts it at $52.8 Million.

Buyer's fee ?! You mean the price sold is not the entirety of the buyer's fee, lol ? Had no clue something like that gets added to the price, I was under the impression the seller pays the auction company a fee for the listing , and then in addition, the auction company takes a commission once it's sold, but all of that coming out of the seller's pocket . Except for sales tax the buyer has to pay, ( which should be right around that 10 % ). Admittedly, I have never sold nor bought anything at auction so not all that familiar with all the fees involved .

Yeah, no kidding.  And it's amusing that the common perception ( same erroneous popular perception associated with all " Porsh " owners ) is that  if you have that kind of money, you don't care about paying through the nose for parts or repairs, or taxes, or fees, etc.   Oh, but they do...I'd even say that the majority of expensive car owners  ( I know only two of them personally, both in the 9 figures net worth category ) are no less frugal and are are often  resentful to being ripped off or what they see as a rip off , just as much as the rest of us meek-ER folks do.    :glare:

Peter Mullin The owner of the Mullin Museum in Oxnard CA, the largest private collection of Bugatti's in the world, does not own a Veyron. He sited the maintenance expense as the prime reason for not buying.
