Took my boss's brand new ( 3 days old ) Maserati GT out for a spin today. He must have a lot of confidence in my driving skills ( oh, the fool..LOL ) to hand me the keys to his $ 137,000 shiny new vehicle. This car is T-Rex in an Armani suit ! Very civilized drive until you click on the sport mode button and then just hold on tight, because it has a serious punch and does not let up until you lift off the pedal. And that exhaust note in sport mode is unbe-F'ing-livable ! Even starting it and just letting it idle makes the hairs on you back stand up and gives your ears goose pimples ( if there was such a thing ) but at WOT, it's pure symphony..kind of like Wagner, intimidating symphony ! It's a 49-51 weight distribution so very well planted on turns, steering is very responsive for a sport-luxury vehicle ( emphasis on luxury ) it has some big-ass brakes but feels a bit soft and stops maybe just a tad slower than I'd expect, although it is a 4200 lbs car so maybe par for the course with that kind of weight. Stunning coachmanship, the interior design and quality are superb in every respect. So a lot of fun to drive, and although far more elegant and civilized than the Maranello 550 I was considering buying, it does not give you that " one with the car " feedback and sense you get with the 968. It drives you more than you drive it. I guess I'm just old-fashioned and like something a bit more raw . But as a daily driver commuting to and from work, or for road trips, oh baby, it's a blast.
