As I said, it’s a subjective topic.. so there is no right or wrong ; to me pretty much any car with very exaggerated lines is an eye sore.  The Pagani lineup for example .  F-ugly, IMO .  But are they extraordinary driver cars ?  Absolutely !!   When the Ferrari Testarossa was released I thought that was the ugliest thing I’ve seen on the road, and to this day I still find it abhorrent looking ( particularly for a Ferrari a brand known for having consistently among the most superb vehicle designs  ).  I also think most Lamborghinis are rather ugly...I’d never be seen in one of those either..  I could go on, but realize that someone else may look at those cars and think they’re stunningly beautiful.  As the adage goes, one man’s  Glenn Close is another man’s Scarlett Johansson    

 

I’m doing well , thanks for asking !   Safe and sound so far, which is remarkable , for an entire year , since I really haven’t, and don’t stay put all that much but grateful that luck has been on my side . Still I feel like I’m almost playing russian roulette every time I go out there but I’m overly cautious and tend to go overboard most times following every guidance re taking protective measures..  Still no 100% guarantee, this damn thing is so contagious it’s insane, but it’s working for me so far, so why mess with success ?! 

 

I’m up at these ungodly hours because once or twice a month I have to be on the phone with business associates in London, and sometimes that’s right after a very late night call with our operations in Singapore or Malaysia , so if you question the sanity of any of my posts, I blame it on sleep deprivation.    :glare:

After the fire I thought about selling my other 968. It is in mint condition and has under 100k. What would I buy? In the back of my mind I keep thinking that it’s a beautiful looking car and I love the lines. It also has the rareness issue although it doesn’t reflect in the value. It also has the sc and drives well as we all know. When I don’t know what to do I often do nothing and wait to see. I’ve got my eye on a track cayman so the buying urge will no doubt be assuaged soon enough!

With a 20k budget, a DB7 is indeed the other choice which comes to my mind, as well.  But looks only, handling doesn’t match the 968.   Maybe a Jaguar XK .  But same as above consideration.

I recall some here ( including me ) were fans of the NSX, but good luck finding THAT anyway near a 968 price point .

Martin pretty much nailed it! What would I buy with 20-25k that I like as much as the 968, that is as fun to drive, and that has a similar level of panache? Nothing, which is why I still have a 968 in the garage.

 

I looked at a Cayman S a couple of years ago, it was uncomfortable, noisy, and the handling was harsh. It accelerated and braked well, but it was not something I would take on a long drive for a holiday weekend.

I've never driven a cayman but it certainly is a different vehicle than a 968 with a different purpose. Is there a reason, besides affordability, that you wouldn't add $5-10 more to expand your range of choices?

The reason for this he cap is quite simple, I could get possibly 12-13k for my 968, at very best I could add another 7k, but no more


Im not rich, so anymore would be a bank breaker.


I paid 6k for my 968 in 2013, so a little profit, the only car I have not lost money on in 40 years


But these figures are GBP, so up yours by 20% ish

True .. 650 HP and 968s are mutually exclusive   -_-  so a new thread dedicated to what other cars would appeal to anyone in the same price range of a 968  could lead to an interesting dialogue..

As for the car.. there were a few skeptics who claimed there is no way this is a regular production car, and that it was a one of a kind specially built by Porsche for these kind of promotional / marketing stunts , and merely wearing the skin of a off the assembly line vehicle .   Ummm, here’s what I’d say to those skeptics  1) these cars sell like hot cakes, Porsche does not need to “fake” anything and 2) when you build essentially the same car since 1948 and keep improving it annually since, yes, it can do that !
