650 hp stock, the new norm ?

I’m not sure if this statement is 100% accurate but it’s close. At 120mph you travel 100’ per second. This a a blinking of your eye. On the track your taught to looK 400’ ahead. Now granted I’ve got a relatively slow car compared to others but 120 is 120 regardless of the car. You incorporate this into your driving along with enhanced situational awareness. 300+ mph would be trainable to our minds but probably only straight lines would be doable. Geometry and grip are involved in corners. You can only drive so fast going around a corner. Tire degradation would be another factor. Nascar tracks have corners with high speeds but not 300. I remember going around turn one at Pocono when I first started driving. My scrotum shrunk to the size of a grain of sand. The car of course was also not set up to drive at peak performance with the track in mind. Going into turn 2 at 130 mph was positively frightening as I realized the slightest mistake would result in hitting the wall. Driving fast only in a straight line would quickly Get boring.

At 120 mph or so driving in a straight line would indeed be boring.  At 140 it becomes a lot less boring . At 160 ( which is the fastest I’ve driven a car - actual speed , not speedometer speed indication )  it’s by no means boring ; it’s very exhilarating..and a little frightening.  I can attest to the grain of sand scrotum, along with white knuckles. And that speed was sustained for no more than a few seconds .

I might, just might muster up the courage to drive 250 in a Bugatti Veyron since it has been tested over and over again at those speeds and proven to be perfectly stable and safe,  allowing even evasive maneuvers without disastrous results.   But as many here know, once you get past that magic 120 or so, every 10 mph increment starts “feeling” as if you’re going  exponentially faster, not just proportional to those increments.   So 330 mph ?!   Not a chance for me, unless I can buy a time machine and go back to my younger days when common sense and fear were mutually exclusive words.

I started this thread in 2012 , which seems like a century ago  in terms of car performance technology .   I realize this ( link below  ) is on the fringe and in a stratospheric price category,  but wondering if in another 8-9 years from now 300 mph may be commonplace .Unless by that time the world will be filled with electric cars, that go from 0-60 in under 2 sec. but limited to 85 mph. top speeds.

Well, internal combustion engine development is pretty much a thing of the past, electric engines already function at around 97% efficiency, so that leaves the tires and possibly suspension for actual performance.... tires I believe are the major opportunity now.

On the non-performance side will be automation, accident avoidance, and gimmicks.

I sadly feel the era of enjoyable driving is drawing to a close.

If electric becomes the norm will the price of well maintained combustible engine cars increase?

Yikes !  Perhaps that, or perhaps just autocorrect . Which one was it Bob ?  In another twist of irony,  it’s mostly the electric cars which are the ones combustible.

As for the question :  IMO, yes the values should rise as nostalgia for “ real cars “  kicks in ..

I must confess that when I start a car these days I’m a wee bit nervous. My shrink says I suffer from combustibleosis. Part of My therapy is chanting and imagining myself sitting in a burning car and willing the fire out. Can’t say I’ve made any progress yet.

And so am I going to be soon.....at the moment I'm fine, but after I've removed/replaced the fuel rail because of my need to replace the brake booster, it will my nose that will be in overdrive ...... Sad

As for you writing combustible ..... it's definitely still on your mind!!!  Hang in there Smile

Leave the car door open, mine was, and have a large fire extinguisher nearby. Make it two.

I'm sure that I have mentioned this car in the past, I never expected that it would ever go up for sale...

If I could only have one dream car, this would be it...to me, this is the most beautiful sportscar ever built.

Sorry Jay, and realizing looks are subjective  this may be the butt-ugliest sports car I’ve ever seen.. I would not be caught in it even if it was gifted to me .

( Frankenstein car ;  the tail end looks like something stolen from a first generation Acura NSX, The middle section has that huge and hideous radiator coils thing there, the  cabin looks like a bubble top off of some silly bat mobile concept car, and the front is a mix of a bunch of designs which are blended into an ok nose, but that’s the extent of it ..).

IMHO of course ..
