Wow, love my Big Reds!!
#21

I'll have to find where I wrote it all down, but I believe I ended up gaining ten pounds on each side. I believe it worked out approx +6 lbs for the calipers and +4 on the rotors. This is with Big Reds and two-piece rotors w/alloy hats.

Can't tell whether the added weight has affected the ride or handling in any way.

Well using this as a guide it looks that the rotors go up 4lbs each but the calipers are not much heavier although that's not entirely conclusive, but the biggest difference is the % cm area increase of the pad over the S4's which is a significant amount and why I'm going to be using the BR's for now. As flash said there is another thing to look at which is weight reduction. This can happen if you go to a new Monoblock design probably from another company which will have definite weight savings and a more modern design technically.

oof!

ok, i'm not going that direction

i'll probably either have aluminum rotors made that fit the stock calipers (presuming i can't find any already being made), or i will go with the ceramic kit

Is that aluminium Hats or Rotors Bob? Someone on another site made the comparison that if things like GT3's had the Monoblock 6 piston design, then why shouldn't older cars have the same level of braking if they're developing similar or even more power with a similar weight. This is of course mostly applicable to turbocharged or supercharged vehicles but with a n/a car where power to weight is more crucial then I would try for the lightest available system. I know that PFC does have a multitude of different products available and there would be some definite weight savings to be made and I'm sure there are lots of brands out there as well that would offer similar savings.

I thought I would open up this thread again by mentioning that a few guys on the Hybrids board have been discussing the Lexus monoblock calipers conversion. Not a P-car item but impressive looking and maybe a bit lighter too. Comments?
