windshield
#1

I have a cracked windshield and the local Porsche dealer ordered the first windshield which came with an antenna. According to the them this was the only option. The company doing the replacement called a another dealer ship. These are the part numbers, but what they have not been able to tell them is if there is an antenna in them or not.

Clear part number: 944 541 01 113

Smoke Part number: 944 541 01 112

Any help would be appreciated.

More than likely it will have an antenna.
I went thru this a few years ago and was pissed
to get a windshield with antenna. I ordered it from
a dealer and had wait a few weeks for it to come
in from Germany.

I just replaced the window in my 951 a few weeks ago.
I used safelite. They were able to get me a new Sekruit windshield.
I only had to pay a $50 deductable thru my insurance.
Might be worth looking into and may be cheaper

this one still stumps me

i find it incredibly odd that the new hardtop windshields come with an antenna, and it's all the way at the top like the cab - it would make sense if they were using the cab windshield, but they aren't - the cab unit is 60mm shorter, and it's taken off the TOP, which would cut off the antenna - they went out of their way to put the antenna into a windshield for a car that never had one there

very odd

I agree as I have owned both cab and coupe. when they showed up to replace there was an antenna in the center that ran up and around the top?? this was from the dealer. My wife works for the glass company and called the dealer that we used to do business with they give her that two part numbers and could also not tell her if they had antenna. Thanks for the help.

My 85.5 944 coupe had an antenna in the windshield.
Is this a shared part with the 944?

I think 944 windshield has different dimensions.
Perhaps the 968 glass fits the 944 and now only produce
one size replacement.

The windshield on E-Bay is said to be made by Sekurit.

All,

thank you so much. Here is the reply from the glass company:

I confirmed with Porsche of Omaha that the 944 541 01 112 (tinted glass) and 944 541 01 113 (clear) does NOT come with an antenna. They confirmed it via email with Porsche in Germany.

We will see when it arrives.

thanks again. I'll let you know......

Just got back from a road trip during which a stone managed to find its way right into my windshield - the chip and cracks are way too large to fix, so it's time for a new one ( again .. ) I had to replace one for the same reason about four or five years ago, IIRC ) Even back then I was told only the antenna ones are available for the coupe, so that's what I've had since and it does not bother me at all, so if that's what's in stock that's what I'll go for, rtaher than wait for a special order from PNA in Atlanta, or from Germany..

944 windshield is smaller, although I have read somewhere it can be made to fit with extra thick seals.

One note - insurance companies are not obligated to pay for OE windshields ( most if not all policies allow the insurers the discretion to pay only for the cost of aftermarket products, if available and with "comparabe" characteristics to the OE ).
So if you want that Sekurit glass from a Porsche dealer, or from another OE provider, you might have to pay the difference - in my case that difference is about $ 600 and I'm not sure it's worth it.. Liberty Mutual has a nationwide contract with Safelight and it seems the cost of a 968 windshield, including labor is less than $ 300 .

Also, if you think you can convince the insurer you must have OE on your car, because it's better quality, or that the value of the vehicle would diminish if afrremarket parts are used, good luck..

Did I mention I hate insurance companies ?! .. And yet as a global risk manager for a multi-billion dollar company I'm handing them millions and millions of premium dollars, annually..

i can't see the difference being $600 when the entire job is only $600 - i just replaced mine a couple of months ago, called the dealer, went and picked it up, dropped it off to the glass guy, and had it installed - just over $600 total

i didn't bother with the insurance - more trouble than it was worth

The saga continues and takes an interesting turn; I called Safelight to find out what brand aftermarket glass they use so I can do some research on it. The safelight rep says : " who informed you we have aftermarket glass for this car ? there are no aftermarket windshields made by anyone else for the 968, only the OE, so we have to order it from the Porsche dealer ". I advised him that's what another one of their reps told Liberty Mutual, upon which we conference called Liberty, got this fact confirmed and Liberty approved the cost of the OE from the dealer on the spot..based on this guys' assertion that's all there is. Gave them the VIN so they can place the order with Porsche and I'm thinking, all's well that ends well. But wait , I get a call back from Safelight 30 min later and informed it's not that easy to locate this particular part and it is possible it could take a couple of weeks, maybe even a month or more Oh well, it's not as if I have to drive the car, and even if I did the spot is a half mm ping all the way down to the left of the windshield , with two 3" thin spider legs so not entirely visible unless you're up close to it.

The local Porsche dealer quoted them $ 800 JUST for the glass.

Everything sems to cost at least 30% less in SoCal ( same with re-upholstering the seats cost.. remember that one ? ) That's it, I'm moving down there.
