Recommended glass shop near Sacramento for rear hatch reseal
#1

My hatch started to delaminate a while back and it's not too bad but it drives me crazy, all these clicks, whistles, etc. so it's been on my list to fix for a while. Well a new baby and lots of busy work means its gone un-fixed for too long and I'm over it. I'm just going to pay someone to fix it[Image: soapbox.gif]

I know this is a somewhat specialized procedure so I'd prefer a place who knows what they are doing. Anyone know of a shop in or around (<50 miles) from Sacramento that is up to the task?

I replaced the front and rear shocks or the lifters and they were $200 total for the two locations. Plus the cost of installation. As far as

If it's from Porsche it's new - pretty sure they don't sell used parts.

Is Porsche still making these hatches for the 968 or have they carried them in stock?

I know, it's a crazy price - half the market value of an entire 968 ! ( albeit one with high mileage but in " ok " running condition ..) . If it makes anyone feel better, the ragtop piece - and I'm talking just about the fabric, none of the frame and mechanism part of it - on a new BMW is over $ 6,000 . That's even crazier and totally unjustified IMO.

I would think if Porsche carries our hatchbacks it's just remaining stock, there is no way their OEM would still have the necessary machinery required to produce something that highly customized with essentially no demand for it ..

Man I'm glad I kept the hatch I took off when I replaced it with a hatch with lexan and a Duetsch nine wing.

I wonder if the new hatch but is old stock still has a perfect lamination on the top? It is said to deteriorate just from age? Any thoughts on this?

If it hasn't had struts attached to it, it's probably in good shape, but being that old, I would guess it would delaminate fast once it did.

I think a critical aspect would be the warranty. If covered you would have time to do an inspection with a glass shop to help to see if it is in good shape. A broken back hatch can "total" a 968. Maybe time to buy one as a spare.
