There is what appears to be some sort of bracket and holes for some kind of bolt on something about 2/3rds way back on the bottom of the transaxle unit of my '94 968. What's the purpose of this bracket and what appear to be alignment or bolt-on holes? Sorry, I don't know how to add arrows but between the three fotos, it's about centered. And you may be able to see a couple of holes. I hope I'm not missing some bolts or something important. Any ideas?
BTW, I don't think this car has LSD. At least, when jacked up and you roll one wheel by hand, the other turns the opposite direction.
Thanks,
Harvey

If you look at the center (empty) hole between the two cheesehead bolts (see right side photo), it looks like there's been something screwed in there before. I'll jack it up and take a closer look. I wonder if this part of the trans comes off if ever there's been a pinion fix. I don't have the full service papers on the car so that's possible.
I have, however, put nearly 4,000 miles on it and the drive train is quiet as can be. I'll look closer to see if there's any disturbed metal around the hole and it there's threads in it. It's bad weather so I won't be doing it tonight.
The next time you guys take a look at your rear end (on your car) I'd appreciate it if you'd compare. Thanks.
Harvey

That makes sense...and may be a good sign that someone has used it.
