What part is this?!
#1

While adjusting the balance shaft belt, I had to remove the upper belt cover. A little plastic clip broke in two, after so many years of heat and cold, and I want to replace it. I cannot find it after two hours of searching!

Does anyone know what it is called!?

On the right side of the upper belt cover is a little metal tab, mounted to one of the bolts. At the top of that metal tab is a little plastic yoke, shaped like a 'C', and what I believe is the upper coolant hose simply lays in that clip to keep it from rubbing on the MAF wires, or something like that.

Any pointers would be very appreciated.

These plastic retaining clips are very troublesome indeed. I went through the same thing you did; nobody seems to carry them, although I'm not sure if I tried Sunset. I'm not concerned about keeping my car original, so I just went with some large-ish tie wraps.

I found a couple of sources on line searching under "snap in wire clip". I should think that some of the industrial supply houses would carry these also. I like Cloud have just zip tied the wire bundle to the metal bracket. If you want to protect the wire a bit, put a short piece of the plastic wire sheathing in the area where you put the zip tie.

But, let us know if you find a good source, as I'd prefer to do it with an actual wire clip.

This is a big clip, and it holds the coolant hose itself, not wires, and is about 1.5" in diameter? It sits on top of a thin metal riser that attaches to one of the bolts on the right side of the upper belt cover. I'll try to get a picture tonight, it's hard to explain, and it's annoying that it's not in the PET.

The local O'rileys store has some metal straps that are made for hoses or large wiring bundles. In the area where the hose would be, they have a plastic coating. At each end of the circle, there is a flat section with a hole in it. They are designed for a bolt to be put through the two holes (one at each end of the circular bent strap) to anchor the stap down. Not sure I understand what you want, but maybe something like this would work.

Here are some pictures of the the engine bay for context, a closeup of where the part is located, and a closeup (and lame drawing) of the part that broke off. Still no luck with the PET or online searches.

I don't even have this part on my car. Guess it is long gone, probably broke sometime in the past. I think I do have the metal clip there with the hole in it for this part. An alternative would be to bolt a large zip tie mount in this location. There are ones made for zip ties (think the zip ties are about 1/2" wide) that are used commercially. Then you could use the wide zip tie to secure the hose. If I can find one of these in my inventory, I'll post a pic of it. And, I know these are widely available.

Even Sunset Porsche could not locate the part... The mystery continues...

I went through the forum looking at numerous pictures of engine bays, and it looks like a lot of cars don't have this part on them. It's probably one of the many things, like the plug in the front of the timing belt cover, the rubber cover on the cam drive gear, the rubber plug in the clutch bellhousing, and the seat belt clips that just break and end up missing after a decade or so.

But, I've ordered and replaced most of those parts on all my P-cars, because I'm *that* picky Worst case, I'll machine one out of Delrin or Nylon.

the clip is there to keep the upper radiator hose out of harm's way and to help prevent it from collapsing

the next time i am at the white car, i'll see if i can get a part number. i know i have one on that car.

by the way, it's not used with the SC, so your search may prove to be a waste of time.

Forgive me, but I'll want it labeled and stored in a little baggie in the event I decide to take the SC off.

With the vibration problem solved, I think I'll soon be putting the SC *on*.

I had that clip until Flash and I put the SC on. Not sure if it made it back home with the spare parts or if we broke it during the install. I'm sure it was probably crispy after all those years.

That's how I solved that broken part too. 3/4Gs for the SC kit and you don't need that part. Easy

Send clip attached to car, and you've got a deal.

Try this diagram and part numbers 33 and 36;

Thanks for looking, unfortunately clips 33, 34, and 36 in that diagram are the reverse of what I need, eg. their mounting pin is split across the open tips of the clip, and I need the one where the mount pin is on the closed side of the C shape. I had Sunset send me a photo of those ones yesterday to confirm. I did order one just for grins, as I'd rather have a Porsche part on there than a zip tie, but it won't be the right part so the search continues.

I really appreciate you sending the link!

Trivia: the early 92 cars don't have this part, as the heater downtube is hard metal, same as the 951.

I think I remember Pete at RSBarn providing this part for someone on the forum. Years ago though... so I might be wrong! Wouldn't hurt to give them a call.
