Hey guys, I tried finding a solution to get my standard 8-way seats mounted lower. I struggle with headroom with my helmet during autocross and DE. I can’t find a good solution however, other than going race seats which I am not quite ready for yet.

Any suggestions?

Would be amazing to have a steering wheel hub extension with the standard wheel, that would solve it all.

And now just installed the rennline trackmats and the perforated gas pedal.

you should have bought a targa, then you could take the roof panel out to give plenty of headroom

Details .... details ... just spent a lovely day listening to Blues in the garage and fixing a few little bits: no drama, just escaping any other work around the house!

1. The correct odometer gears arrived a while back so I popped them in and now it all works.  Thanks to whoever did the notes on not needing to remove the steering wheel ... really quick job now!

2. Replaced the little "shock absorbers" under the injector rail ..... thanks Waylander, those 15 x 15 bobbins are just fine and a fraction of the cost of "genuine" Porsche.

3. Removed the flying lead that some clown had tapped into the +12v wire on the pgr airbag!! So I was then able to clip on the top of the 10-way plug assembly to secure the pins.... hard to believe someone would tap into the airbag pins!!!

+1 .... I found a spare pin/socket for the CC actuator, and I have the extraction tool so now I can finish up making the CC wiring neater (thanks Waylander for the offer of some pins, now not necessary but grateful all the same.)

+2 .... My Koni inserts arrived on Friday, so there's a little job for the non-too-distant future.

I trust you guys are having a good weekend.

Bought used Airbox and modified it with the 4 ports.  Put my original unmodified air box away in storage.  A bit more lively now below 4000 rpm.

Windshield is being replaced this week (not by me).

Hi Snova, how long did it take to complete the mod and did you find some barrels to smooth the inflow? I have an air box in UK with my brother .... another job on hold. I guess I could do the work now and store the one my brother has, but I'd really like to ensure the other is in good condition.

I've seen the design notes and instructions, but any other tips would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Roboman,

I pickup the port holes inserts at RSBARN.   They seem to be 2" Inside diameter instead of 2" outside diameter. Therefore after using a 2" hole saw you will need enlarge the holes slightly.   The inserts are also 2.5" long (i.e. way too long) and need to be cut shorter so they extend just past the inside of the airbox.

I used a cut off disc on the Dremel tool to cut them shorter.   Then I mostly used a sanding cylinder on the Dremel tool to smooth off my cuts to the tubes, open up the diameter of the holes in the airbox to all the port tubes to be inserted. Also to allow the tubes to sit flush against the airbox I had to sand down the molded ridges on the airbox.   The hole just to the left of the snorkel opening will require the port insert to be modified as here is not enough clearance to insert the port insert. Again I used the sander to create a smooth notch to allow it to pass the snorkel. There is a similar issue with another port hole, I forget which one.

All in all, I'd say it took about an hour for all the Dremel tool work.   If I had to do it again,  I'd say skip the port inserts and just use a Dremel tool with a sander cylinder to smooth out the holes that are cut out with the 2" hole saw.   Not worth the effort and cost of the port holes inserts unless you want a more finished look.

Moreover, if you think about it the air has take a 90 degree  turn upwards through the air filter to get into the intake manifold.  This 90 degree turn has to get around the end of the inserts that you have to cut off because they are too long.  So there goes all your effort to smooth out the airflow as it has to get past the edge of the tube that you cut off.  in other words, I wouldn't over think the smoothing of the airflow. I consider the port holes tubes a cosmetic thing at best unless someone can prove me wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if the inserts make the airflow even worse than just smoothed over cuts into the airbox with a sander.

Hi Snova, I've had "one too many right now " but agree with your notion about smoothing the flow through the whole system. Trouble is I left " car tweaking " behind about 20 years ago. I know what to do but don't have the mec to measure the change/improvement.

Thank you for the info, I'll certainly consider it when I do the same mod ??

We had this debate years ago, and Bob Larson (Flash) showed how the ports were necessary to smooth the airflow. Without them, or something like them, the airflow was worse and all of the benefits were not realized.

I cut the front out of the box and made a smooth surface for velocity stacks. I don't know if they help, but I do like how they look. Not that you can see them under the front cover.

I still think this is a waste of time and an air box for the meagre power gains, and thats only in the cold air days, when its hot and your drawing hot air you will possibly be down on power

For this to be of any real benefit you need to ensure the engine gets the coldest dense air possible, not hot engine bay air

Ask RS Barn

Each 10 degrees in raised air temp will cost you about 10BHP

this is why I am thinking of trying to create a modified snorkel

Spent some time yesterday morning completing replacement of parking brake hardware - all new shoes and springs on both rear wheels.   One of the springs on the side had broken and was rubbing the inside of the rear rotor, making a horrible squealing noise (separate thread here on that).

Spent time this morning pulling center console out a bit to access AC drain hose under radio because I recently got a cold shower out of my AC vents when running fan with AC on high setting.   Sure enough, lower part of hose is deteriorated enough it won't seat into hole in body to drain properly.    New hose ordered and will have to get in there again to replace it next weekend.

Side note - that "devils snot" adhesive that Porsche used to line the carpet to the body is something else - yuk.

Lastly, ordered a saratoga top yesterday as I cannot resist the idea of having a view out the roof (nearly every other car I've driven had a sunroof/moonroof) and more light in the cabin.   The most recent run is likely the last we'll see as the rumor on RL is that they have shut down "Pilkington Classic" (the division of Pilkington glass that did the last couple of batches of Saratoga tops), so they'll only be on the used market (and seemingly relatively rare) after this.

Huge job  Rolleyes  Tongue this week ;  I recharged the battery jumper device I keep in the trunk,  a once every six months task.   Hey, I had to do something for the 968 !  It’s been sitting four months  -_-

This one :

https://www.amazon.com/DBPOWER-18000mAh-...B01D42TYFC

I have five of them, one in each car .   They’re worth their weight in gold,  IMO.   I used it only once but that occasion alone convinced me to carry them in all the cars, just in case .. I have no patience to wait for AAA to get there,  If it’s only for the purpose of a battery jump start .

Thanks, that's probably given me a shove in the right direction, I really ought to buy a few of those. Much of our driving is in the countryside where there is little assistance.

AT LAST managed to get hold of the front and rear shocks, now off to the garage to see if he'll let me help with the installation. My hope is that I can do the conversion work for the Koni inserts whist he dismounts and remounts front and rear shocks. Thanks to whoever posted the YouTube video.

BTW the front end instructions show that one should mark the springs so that they can be remounted in the same orientation as when they were taken off ..... IS THIS IMPORTANT? do the springs develop some sort of bias after years of being in the same place?

Advice on this last point would be appreciated, thanks.

PS I see California is heading for 50C .... Ouch!

Hit a bit of a milestone today - 150k miles!

Still looking pretty decent for it's age/mileage, in my opinion (literally took this picture at the 150k mark) :

Celebrated awhile back by ordering one of the Saratoga sunroofs for it - unfortunately battling some latch issues with the sunroof at moment, so it's still not in the car.    Ironically, I hit the 150k mark when coming back from a friends house trying to work on fixing the saratoga latch issue.

Hopefully have installed Saratoga pics to share before too much longer.
