What did you do for your 968 this week?

I finally got mine on the road. It is amazingly enjoyable to drive this car. I gotta figure out a few things like the constant heat that is blowing no matter what I do with the controls. There are no dash lights either but who needs that anyhoo?

The heat at all times will be a broken control rod clip on the side of the heater box

LHD, so it will be on the side of the heater in the drivers footwell

The clip is available from Porsche about $2

Yep, Waylander is right.

I have had it years ago, on a hot day and a bumpy road, all of a sudden hot air out of the vents.... :whine:

It was a broken clip, quick fix

I'm hunting the cause of my passenger airbag warning light (hoping it's not the airbag) pulled the glove box and discovered this connector without a back on it. This will obviously permit the pins to come loose so I need a new one.  But in the meantime I've not located the wiring on the wiring diagram which will help me identify that plug/socket.  Someone recently posted .... "pulled glove box and reached in behind" ... but I cannot locate the post.

Is this part of the airbag wiring??

On last monday, changed the two fuel filters, as I didn't know  if it has been done on the car,.

I went through the process of emptying the tank. My advice: the hose should be around 2 meters wide... fuel everywhere in the garage.

The tank filter was very clean, didn't open the other one to check.

So, I guess I lost my afternoon for a useless job. :whine:

Hey Chap ..... took mine for the CT (MOT to you guys) .... Passed no worries! Very pleased as the airbag light had been bugging me. I guess it was the loose pins behind the glove box! Thanks to whoever posted about the two plugs up behind the glove box, saved me a lot of problems Smile

Don't forget, the default setting for the hot water control valve behind the distributor is "on", so a disconnected or failed vacuum line will make the valve stay on and the heater core in the cabin will always be hot. Those plastic valves are prone to failure, so that may be a good place to look as well.

Took it out for it's weekly exercise run on one of our first really warm days only to find the air air con appears to have failed. So I'll be sorting that out straight away. Things really begin to heat up around here in July.

A slow leak is very possible,  most recharging canisters come with leak mitigation additives , so hopefully that’ll solve the problem and last for a few years .  It worked with my car .

Finally got the belts done at Provost Motorsports, fluids changed and checked.

I only drove the 968 3 times last year, and once this year prior to service. My goal now is to drive several thousand miles this Summer. It is a terrible shame to let this car sit in the garage.

Every year I keep telling myself I am going to drive this car at least two weekends every month, or even more often, and yet, every year I end up driving it maybe a weekend day every other month.  And sometimes I don’t even stick to that; last year I drove it only  4 or 5 times.  One the reasons I never make New Year resolutions.  :glare:   Pity, because every single time I take it out for a spin it’s such a fun experience I can’t wait for the next drive, but then for inexplicable reasons it goes back in the garage and stays there for way too long .   Sad

I let mine sit undriven for more than a year while we renovated out house prior to putting it up for sale. Once the house was sold and I turned my attention to the 968 only to find that it had become inoperable. The cost of getting it back on the road was significant. The guys at APB did a great job and got it running again, and made it road ready. Their advice, when weather permits drive the car at least once per month. Since getting it back, the only days I don't drive the car is when the temperature drops into the low 40's making it difficult to keep heat in the tires. I don't worry about driving in the rain, except when it gets cold enough for ice to accumulate.

So drive your cars or pay the price!!!

I used to drive my car no less than every 3 weeks, even during Winter, but we bought a second home last year and all my energy went into renovations.

Thinking about adding another garage to the second home now (first world problems).  Wink

BTW, I tell my friends they can stop the GoFundMe because I am no longer Second Homeless.

I did 3300 miles in mine last year, and nearly 2000 so far this year

Nearly 30k in 7.5 years, and I have another 3 cars to drive, the 968 just makes me feel great every time I drive it

Thank you but what are these part number for please? Clips that keep the speedo thing together?

This car is an absolute dream to drive. It gets better every time. I just took it out for a spin for no good reason but to drive it. The heat is still on full blast all the time though and that takes away from the driving pleasure now that it is hot. Tomorrow my mechanic will look at it and I sent him the other text about the default setting on the hot water control valve. He wants to get it on the lift to see whats up. The rear view mirror keeps jumping out of the puck all the time. Tightening the set screw doesn't help and I tried to fold a matchbook cover and stuff it in there but no avail. The rear view mirror is a common problem? I gotta make it stay on the clete thing and not rattle off.

The key from the dealership is pretty much useless because it is for the doors only. I was wondering why there were 2 keys. Someone must have changed the ignition cylinder along the way. I did find the correct blanks and made copies. This car gets a lot of attention and comments from car enthusiasts.

I had the same problem with my rear view mirror, solved it with some industrial adhesive. Just a drop and it hasn't moved in years.

Be sure to check out the vacuum lines that go to the heater valve.that is a point of failure too.
