I am not interested in a 968 (or ANY automobile) that has had minor or major body & Paint work done.

Just a personal preference....

Even if the work has been documented Paint tends to taint the history of the car, and its value.

With that being said, this is only MY opinion. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

repaints can be a good thing or bad thing, depending on who did it and to what extent

certainly there is a wisdom to shying away from repainted cars when looking to buy - unless you can get the history on the job, and really inspect it, you could be buying a stack of problems

a really good repaint can actually raise the value of the car - minor repair paining can look bad later on, especially if it's blended

the problem, at this point, is that you get to choose between rock chips and repaint

i would choose the rock chips myself, because then i am not paying a "premium" for somebody else's idea of good work, and then go back and reshoot the entire car, the way i did, by removing the panels and stripping the paint

thankfully, these cars are very cheap, and the difference isn't that much

<img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> The car I had my heart set on buying had been Molested by Maaco.

Respray’ed from the tip of the front bumper, all the way down the right side to the rear bumper. The quarter panel had a 4 inch curtain (large paint run), and several other drips and fish eye's that SOMEONE had attempted to unsuccessfully sand out until the paint started to thin, leaving a mess that only a trained eye LOOKING for it would find. (Thank you Eric, you saved me a HUGE Headache)

They didn’t even remove the lower rocker panels so there was overspray on all of the rubber seals, orange peel that resembled the surface of Mars, and crooked tape lines that could have been bettered by a drunk 10 year old.

I'm not going to post links or contact information for the seller because I dont think anyone in this community needs a bastard child like this...at any price.

All I'm going to say is, if you or anyone you know is looking at an under priced white over black cabrio in the state of Colorado, RUN away from this car. It needs a clutch, it has no tools, or a compressor. The paint work will cost at least 3K to correct (and you will still end up with a two tone 968, part original part bastardization) & the timing belt is SOOOOO old it needs to be replaced immediately. The Seller is a Clueless old man named Jim (James) who drives his car with the OIL LIGHT on.

By the time I finished replacing the clutch, water pump, timing belt, and paint my $14,000 cabriolet would have easily exceeded the EXCELLENT book value and I would still be left with a two tone red headed step child .

SO....To sum this all up I'm still looking for a ORIGINAL White over Black Or Silver Over Black Cabrio 6 Speed.

If you happen to know where I can find a WELL KEPT Original (No Paint Work), please let me know.
