Valve cover beautification

I am up for doing this as well.



Ideally all parts should be removed from car for best results, or are some of you masking off. How long is estimated removal of the 3 parts?

Valve cover, fuel rail cover, intake runners.

Valve cover and fuel rail come off in 15 minutes, most of the time spent going to the tool crib <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Careful with the fuel hoses if you decide to take those off as well (makes it easier to remove). Make sure you use 2 wrenches to counter the torque of cracking the nuts 17-19 mm I think.

I'm contemplating cleaning up the finish on the top of my mill using masking tape and spray; then I saw these

I like the lettering from Jageng too but did the masking and paint (Red hi-heat). Just for info sake, it has stood up well and cost nothing. Plus I like lots of little P-car winter projects so this fits the bill for an hour of "escape to shop" time. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Absolutely right, you need to open/close all four ends of the two lines with two open end wrenches. Besides the 17 and 19, you'll also need a 14mm.

Excuse the repeated question (not trying to be rude, just would like to see peoples' thoughts), but has anyone bead blasted their intake manifold? It looks so great on the valve cover that I'm coming around to thinking that's what I want to do if I can find someone who'll do it for a reasonable price, so I assume it would make the intake manifold look great as well. Or are the alloys different enough that bead blasting isn't advisable on the intake manifold? Mine is grubbier than my valve cover. Thanks.

I as well would want the intake manifold to match the rest, and it is not as easy to remove, as the other 2 parts. I domnot want to mask off areas for fear of overspray. The rag approach is interesting, so I may try a sample on some other parts laying around for look.

My manifold is off, so masking isn't a problem. Whatever I do, I'd like the valve cover and manifold to match.

I looked for bead blasters in my town (Austin, TX), and not a whole lot came up. But I did find a couple of places that do something called soda blasting, which they claim is very gently on the base material. Any idea if this would do as good a job as bead blasting? Thanks.

Ace hardware stores sell a silver colored paint for aluminum that can be applied to clean metal with a rag. called " chrome aluminum paint"

It is heat resistant and can handle the temps.8fluid ounce size.Part# ACE16444.

Start with the intake. Easier and a good way to get used to the amount of paint needed. The results are so fast that I guarantee that you will be taking the "PORSCHE" valve cover off to get it done off of the engine.

fast easy and looks great. The PORSCHE letters from Jageng really set off against the silver background.

Hot968, sorry for the delay on the paint spec. I used "Wurth White Aluminium RAL 9006" Part # 0893.339006-A. I used their clear laquer over top. You do get a bit of oil soak with the engine heat if you have any leaks at all though, small brownish spots. I had that due to a leaky Variocam seal and one plug seal.
