Fellow enthusiasts, with Christmas approaching quickly I'm hoping Santa will have room on his sled for some new OEM wheels. He is not quite familiar with 968s so he requires a bit of assistance. Maybe you can help him.



I'm interested in upgrading the current wheels from 16" to 17 inchers. As an option on the 1995 968, the 17" five spoke wheels are my first choice as I would like the car to remain as factory stock as possible. Searching online for used wheels from various Porsche owners is finding very high prices as well as limited selection. Are there companies that sell good quality wheels that are OEM standard? Also what tire brand would you favour?

It took me a LOT of reading and questioning to get wheels that, after some futzing, eventually fit and are beauteous... The 17's in original style were unobtanium, and after that it's a matter of estimating offsets, spacers, etc. I don't envy you just starting this process!

Most of the UK cars had the 17" 993 Cup (Cup 2), see my pictures.



Offsets are 65 & 55, there are copies around and their offsets are 52 and 47 which apparently are better for track use (although they are heavier wheels), made by Mille Miglia.



They do come up from time to time on ebay over here in the UK, varies in price but I now have two sets, paid about $700 for a set that needed a refurb.

what i don't understand is why anybody types "93cup". i've seen this a few times now. there is nothing "93" at all. it's "993" how do people keep forgetting a 9 with a porsche?

lol - i corrected it. initially it read "93cup" in your post, and the ad. i've seen this quite a few times and had to correct it manually. i just assumed that somebody failed to type the second "9"



i know there is a glitch in the autocorrect mechanism, but i'm not sure how to fix it yet. i'm not sure why it keeps repeating the correction, rather than just fixing it once. it should see the term, and autocorrect it. it should not do it 3 times, which i've seen quite a few times now.

I have 17" Cups on my 968 but I really prefer the look of the Speedline 3.6 wheels. I can't afford a set of Speedlines, but I have seen the same 3.6 design by RH for about $3500 / set. There are also the same design wheels by Veloce for $1500 per set. I am not sold on going to 18" wheels, but the look of the 3.6 wheels really so much better. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade.

it's all about the weight and the compound of the tire chosen. for example, if you choose a heavy wheel and/or tire (over 54lbs or so total combination of tire and wheel) you'll have to make it up in suspension. if you choose a stiff tire, you'll get a rough ride.

How wide a wheel can be fitted on the rear? 10.5? I want the look of the 18" 3.6 style wheels, but I am also pairing it with the M030 suspension. I don't want to be banging over every expansion strip.

depends on too many factors. spring rate, camber angle, toe set, yada yada. i have 10s under mine.



M030 is no fun on the bumps. you'll definitely feel it with 18s, no matter how soft of a tire you run.
