THE WHEELS THAT CAME ON OUR CAR
#1

the standard wheel was the C2 5 SPOKE 16"

7 x 16 ET55 part number 944.362.114.00

8 x 16 ET52 part number 944.362.116.00

the early 17" option (which continued to be available) was the C2 Turbo - it was NEVER called a "Cup 1" - there never was a wheel called that by Porsche - ours was a replica of the wheel, which was a Magnesium wheel, used on the 964 Cup car - ours is a heavier cast aluminum alloy

7.5 x 17 ET65 part number 965.362.124.05

9 x 17 ET55 part number 965.362.128.00

there were additional wheels available for winter use

8 x 17 ET52 part number 965.362.126.01

9.5 x 17 ET68 part number 965.362.128.05

the later cars came with the 993 Cup wheel - it was NEVER called "Cup 2" by Porsche

7.5 x 17 ET65 part number 993.362.124.05

9 x 17 ET55 part number 993.362.128.00

there were additional wheels available for winter use

8 x 17 ET52 part number 993.362.126.00

here is the wheel that started all of the confusion - note "Magnesium" in the casting - there are a few different widths and offsets out there in these

Fox-

The were made by Speedline for Porsche. They were on the '94 911 Turbo 3.6 as well as the 968 Turbo S, maybe some others as well. Not sure if they were exactly the same- might be different offsets between the two. I believe Porsche still might have some available. A new set will set you back in the $5000 range IIRC. You might find a slightly better deal used, but most people don't part with them once they get them.

If you are really interested, I would start by giving Sunset a call in Oregon to see if they have a set or can get a set.

Beautiful wheels for sure.

BoostFeen has a set on his 968 Turbo S replica- he might be interested in selling the wheels separately.

since boostfeen is selling his turbo conversion with your choice of 2 different sets, i think he would part with a set

i would be interested in these wheels. By biggest question is what are the exact sizes & offsets and how much do they weigh? If they are heavier then the Hollow Spokes i'm running now, i would not get them.....I do think they are gorgeous wheels however.

Just wanted to add better pictures all the OEM wheels (taken at this years Hershey parade). Unfortunatly, no one had a set of OEM Turbo S wheels mounted on their car. I tried to find a 964 Turbo 3.6 in the lot so i can take a pic, but the only 964 Turbos i found had aftermarket wheels. Good news is, i got a shot of C2 5 Spoke 16", C2 Turbo 17", & 993 Cup 17".

update on the original C2 Turbo wheels (the official name for the 17" wheel, replicas of which came on early 968s with the 17" wheel option):

the 9.5" wide magnesium wheel came with a 17mm spacer - i have not yet been able to ascertain if the car was also equipped with long studs, or if the spacers had their own set of lugs

Since we are talking wheels let me add the North American 968 factory wheel production data:

code 402 was the C2 5 spoke 16" wheels - they are standard equipment on the 968
code 403 was the C2 Turbo 17" light alloy wheels - Optional on 92-94.5 968s, cost $1,378
code 398 was the 993 17" cup wheel - Optional on 94.5 - 95 968s, cost $1,352

Other interesting wheel options:

code XD4 was the rim cap with Porsche crest, cost $208 in 92-94.5 and $214 on 94.5-95
code XD9 was the painted wheels, cost $1,079, usually found on white cars but can be found in other colors as well. Only inner section of wheel was painted body color, outer edge was still the gray.

Other notes,
code 231 is always paired with either of the 17" wheel options. It is a tire code indicating a change in tire manufacturer on the production line (so I'm told by my friends in Germany). It does not show up on the window sticker or cost anything.

There was no 17"x8" wheel option from the factory. Of course the dealer could do anything.
The M030 suspension was available as part of a package option code which include 17" wheels but NOT LSD.

Wheel option data for cabs only at this point:

2,008 cabs produced for North American market
228 with option code 403
274 with option code 398
1,506 with code 402 (16"s)
923 with code XD4
4 with code XD9

Those are dealer packages, they still offer those today. You could not order a 968 with them and they were not listed in the sales books. Similar to the wind deflector on a cab. Factory part, available at the dealer, not through the factory.
