I've been putting up with this for sometime now. This weekend i would like to try to fix it or at least find where the problem is.
Problem. - My battery seems to disconnect at random. Sometimes while driving but it has also happen while at idle. Just cuts off and everything goes dark. Turn the key and I get nothing. I have discovered that I can pop the hood, give a light wiggle to the battery and everything is fine again.
Outside of completely shutting down I've experienced the following:
radio going out and coming back on within 1 second. It's obvious because my Avic has a 15 second boot up time.
With headlights down and off. I can pull the lever to flash the high beams and the temp gauge goes dim.
My cluster illumination lights wont come on. brake light, ABS light etc works but the lights that illuminate the cluster are dark.
Last weekend I got the battery charged and cleaned the connectors, even though they looked fine. Before that my car has been sitting for over a month because of this issue. I took it out today for about an hour and everything went fine. The radio didn't even reset. Cluster lights are still dark.
Any ideas on what to test or how to narrow down the culprit would be appreciated.
PS I was just going to get a complete set from higher connections but after talking with them/him I feel thats not necessary.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

Thanks Flash.
I drove it into work today, just got back from taking another rive during lunch. So far all is well. Your the 2nd person to point towards the main ground. The owner of higher connection also noted that a lot of the wires on the 68 and 44 are poorly grounded.

Your first thing to do should be to put the Higher Connections positive and negative cable kit it. It's well worth it, very high quality stuff and you will notice it makes a difference with the voltage.

Do you mean buy and replace every cable?

Yes, the positive cables from the battery to the starter, then to the alternator, and the ground cables off the battery. He has a entire kit and it's really easy to install. There are a few posts on the subject here with pictures of the cables that are in your car. They are probably not pretty and cracking waiting for a fire.
