Top 5 mods
#1

Guys,

I have started reading all of your great posts, but I am having trouble putting them all into perspective.

By way of background:-

1. Bear in mind that I live in Australia where the 968 was not a huge sales success (to say the least) and there are not many of us willing to tread the different path of a 968.
2. We don't have access to the gear (and the aftermarket expertise) over here. I enjoy tinkering myself but am no mechanic!!
3. My car is a daily driver. I love the way that NOONE knows what the heck the car is, but almost everyone loves the way it looks.
4. By virtue of our brilliant weather, I mostly drive with the roof out and the windows down - top end speed is not a priority anymore.
5. I have no plans to race my car soon.

I would be interested in what other members would recommend as the top 3-5 mods that would make my car even more enjoyable and show the best bang for your buck!

I am in the final stages of kitting out my Landcruiser for a trip accross the Simpson Desert and up to Uluru next week. Very extreme environment that has taken a lot of preparation. As I consequence, the 968 is feeling neglected and I will be well and truly sick of the Landcruiser in a month of so!!

Thanks,

Peter

This is sure to elicit a lot of great ideas, but my top five would probably be:

1) Strut tower brace
2) Air box mod
3) RS Barn Stage 1 chip
4) Heat shield (to protect the Hall sensor and the heater control valve)
5) Newer, 993-based DME relay (keep the old one in your glove box as a spare)
5a) Stainless steel braided clutch high pressure line

I'll be interested to see other peoples' top five lists...

Based on your locale I would offer the following:

1) Air Box Modification (all you need is a hole saw and stereo store)
2) K & N Air Filter
3) RS Barn Stage 1 Chip (Shipped weight about 30 grams)
4) Maintenance...these babies run best when they get the most spark, air and fuel...
5) Detailing supplies and lots of beer...

2) Airbox mod - cheap
3) Suspension upgrade - M030 bars ( or better ), springs, Konis, etc.. - definitely not cheap, but worth every penny
4) Chip ( RS Barn, Racer X, Promax - take your pick ) - cheap

top 5 mods...

the first mods anyone should do imo;

- Airbox mod with a K&N filter.
- RSB Stage 1 Chip
- Cat-Back Exhaust
- D1 Lower Chassis Brace
- Strut Tower Brace

The car will sound much nicer, have much snappier acceleration, and will have much sharper reflexes

On holidays to the NT - sounds like fun mate. Have a couple green cans for me - through you are probably a 4X man. I lived in the Alice during the 90's. I do miss that big open country - the Kings Canyon and the stars at night - the awesome stars.

If your looking for best bang for the buck in performance - its already been touched upon above. Though I need to get some of those things myself - like the Design 1 Racing fuzzy dice and beaded seatcovers. I've already got knock-offs of there other items listed above. Yes, agree that Flash nailed most of the the essential mods for the car, but "banditsc" had the absolute must-have in his list: SPINNERS !!
Although I am shocked none of you included the Tornado ( r* "as seen on TV " ) power and mileage booster in your lists. Frankly, I think
for $69.99 it's a far less expensive alternative to the Supercharger we're all discussing on another thread..

Forget about Konis and M030 sway bars just go for pneumatic lowrider suspension.
