Tire size
#1

I'm sure it's been asked before but...

Would it be OK to go with a 235/40/17 up front?

Yes.

I have 235/40/18 on my 968.

The factory 17" front 225/45/17 has a diameter of very close to 25 inches. 235/40/17 is 24.5 inches and 235/45/17 is 25.5 inches. Changing the diameter of the tire by half an inch will change the speedometer display by 2%.

I've changed my tire size more dramatically than what you are considering, and had no problems at all.

I've got 265/35/18 up front, with a resulting 25.3 diameter.

I've got 295/30/18 in rear, with a resulting 25.0 diameter.

Wow, that's a lot of meat. I am dealing with a factory setup, and you have many mods. I was more interested in knowing that the tire will fit my factory wheels. Thanks all.

Hi Josho,

I have the CupII's (7.5x17 & 9.0x17) on my 968 CS and am running 235's on the front and 255's on the rear without any issue. I found front end 'turn in' to be way better with the increase in width from the stock-sized 215's to 235's.

steve

The tires on the front now are 225\45\17, these were on it when I purchased the car. I have ordered the 235\40\17 and will have them installed on Friday. I was hoping like you said that it would help with the turn in, but so will my future suspension mods.

Josho,

Have you been secretly spying on my car??? That is what I have just finished, I put 265/40/17s on the derrier. and Koni adjustables all the way around with Flash's agressive alignment specs. Big difference. The car is like new again, only better!

See Ya on Sun.

I have factory 17s ( 7.5 /65 Front, and 9/ 55 Rear ) , all stock suspension, and running 235/40 F and 265/40 R on those without any problems.

Next step is to lower the car just a little and then go to flash's moderate alignment set up.

You guys have fun on Sunday in Sacramento. I actually might have driven up to join you, but I have friends in from Sta Barbara this weekend..

Didn't the cups come in both 7"and 7.5" fronts? Can one put 235's on the 7" versions, or is 225 the widest we can go on 7's and still be safe?

7x17s are from 911s, the 968 only had 7.5x17.

The widest tires I know of on factory 968 7.5x17 and 9x17 is 245 front and 275 rear.

It is common for 968 owners to buy 911 wheels and install 225 front tires on them. I would think that some tires would allow fitment of 235 on a 7" wheel. Every tire should have a spec sheet where you can see the min, max and recommended width of wheel to match the tire. Tirerack.com posts the spec sheets online.

Went to pick up the wheels w\new tires and what size are they 225/45/17, so they're gonna get the right ones on for me tonight. I guess if you screw up you'd better make something happen to help the situation.

DS,

I hope sometime this fall we all So.Cal Mid.Cal & No. Cal can all get together for a "Meet and greet" drive on a weekend. Flash said something about a Napa run, but that is North even for us Sacto guys. Whats in the middle ground? This probably belongs in another topic area, buy since you brought it up. Sorry we won't see you on Sunday.

Good weekend

So I get The new correct tires home and get them out of the back of the Integra so I can shine them up and put them on, when oh what do I see is that a large gouge around half of the effing rim? why yes it is. I am so pissed off I just hope that I can keep my cool when I talk to them in the morning. I completly understand that mistakes happen however if the minimum wage earning middle aged grease head didn't notice that he gouged into the wheel, well you get my drift. And my other wheel while not as bad has several new chips on the lip. ARRRGGGGG

Oh and my Porsche crest valve covers their probably on the jerks gremlin right now.

Depending on how they handle this in the morning I will decide weather to post the name and location. Until then well she's got a new scar.

PASO ROBLES. Had tentatively planned that, but has been postponed. Stay tuned, I hope it should not be too long..

Check out the shoes on this coupe on Ebay. 18x8.5 with 225/40's on the front and 18x10 with 285/35's on the rear. Take some effort to break that rear end out. Wonder why he didn't go wider on the front.

Car looks real nice too!

I got my wheels to the shop and their going to send them to Tognotti's Wheel shop, to have them fixed. So I guess getting new looking wheels is not a bad deal. Now I'll have to get my rears done.

josho - i just had the same exact experience here with having new tires mounted by a local shop. the only difference is that i had just spent the last two weeks refinishing the rims myself. the tire mounter gave me the mounting for free as a "favor". i should have gotten more than that out of him, for sure. something like free rotations and alignments for five years.

in my case, it was just one very long night of re-sanding, and re-painting. you'll probably have to lose your rims for a week. that's the real shame of it.

are they going to refinish all four wheels for you for free? i would think that they should. i've never mounted a tire, but what the heck is so hard about it?

you're not alone!!!

I see it like this:

People have jobs because they can provide what is needed by the employer. They get paid to do their job right. When they don't do their job right they should admit their mistake and learn from it and seldomly repeat this mistake, if ever.

I understand completly that mistakes happen, but to send these wheels home with me and not say anything about is is a whole other problem. Besides the fact that my valve stem caps "dissapeared."

There is nothing wrong with making a mistake like this, what should have happened is them letting me know that they screwed up and they would do "x" to make up for their mistake.

Water under the bridge now, or at least when I get the wheels back in 3-4 days.

OT, but if I was in the market, I'd spend 20K for that car " sight unseen ".
